3rd time laying eggs, ????

I am wondering if anyone else's female panther has taken numerous attempts to lay her eggs. One of my females is on her third time burying her eggs ?

What do you mean...this is her third clutch or she's been laying a few eggs at a time close together to make up one clutch?

Sorry this is my first time posting and I am not sure how best to phrase this. What I mean is one of my females has dug in her laying bin for the third time in the period of about ten days. I have a few females but they have only ever went through the whole digging and laying egg procedure once. Is it common for them to make more then one attempt to lay their eggs?

waiting

im having the same problem right now... i put in a new bin for her to lay in. she laid one clutch 2 months ago, fertile, now she is pregnant and laid 2 eggs yesterday so i am waiting for the rest of the eggs to come. i searched all in the soil and there were no more eggs, she is still somewhat plump and i know she has more eggs in her stomach.

This is pretty normal.
Females do often make several diggings until they find what in their opinion is the best place to lay their eggs.

Thank you so much for your answers. I can not believe they can go through that process more then once !! Poor girls so grueling. I just hope she is happy with this attempt.

If she tries too often there might be something wrong with the substrate like it is too wet or to dry.
Maybe you disturbed her too often and she won´t dare to lay them because of that.
It may help to cover the cage with a towel or something so she will have more peace.
@ djfishygillz: i do certainly not know much about this but i in your place would be afraid that she´s eggbound. Maybe someone with more knowledge about this can comment.

Well it is possible that the sand is too dry because I thought she was done last time .I did not add water and sift through the sand like I normally would. I have to say because of that I was afraid the sand would cave in on her but she seemed to dig and come out hours later fine. I know to leave her alone, so I keep my distance unless absolutley nessasary. Although if she starts digging again I will cover her cage. Anytime I have had an eggbound female they did not attempt to dig at all . Can she be eggbound and still go through the motions of digging and burying her eggs?

Normally eggbound females stop digging after a few tries and get back to their normal behaviour that they showed before they started digging.
Do you think she has problems with digging a deep enough tunnel or something?

i dont think she would be egg bound if she already laid 2 eggs of the clutch, she just needs to pop out the rest. i put in 2 different kinds of substrate all at good moisture levels so i think i should be okay.

if she is digging let her be. she will 99 percent chance lay them if she digs a hole for them. my females normally dig 4 or 5 holes at times before laying. they dig "test holes" as i have heard them be called before

I would think it´s unusual for her to lay only two eggs and not the whole clutch.
She might have problems with laying the remaining eggs because they might stick together or be too big.

The soil was to wet at first but I have replaced it with new soil and have a sand box off to the other side of the cage so she has 2 options of which substrate to lay in. I am going to keep a close eye on her and have been monitoring her mood and weight.

Sometimes when they lay a couple of eggs like that there is no issue and all goes on the way it should....however, all too often they go on to have egglaying issues...so I have to agree with lumbasammler.

DebbieK said..."Can she be eggbound and still go through the motions of digging and burying her eggs? "...yes, they can still continue to dig when eggbound. They can also dig the hole, turn around and act like they laid the eggs, fill the hole in and still not have laid them and be eggbound.

You said..."I know to leave her alone"...you should not let her see you watching her at all when she's digging...this can make them stop digging and lead to eggbinding.

Hopefully if she doesn't see you watching her she will lay the eggs.

Since you mentioned having an eggbound female before, you should fill out the questions in the "how to ask for help" threads in the Health forum to see if there is a reason why.

How about watching her with a live-stream camera?
I´ve just recently seen a thread where somebody had a livestream to his digging female.
This way you can watch her aand she won´t notice.

she would have no clue as long as the camera isnt invading into her space very much i would assume. and yes i am still worried about my female only laying two eggs and i am talking to a chameleon expert on the best procedures to help her along. if any of you have any additional tips i am open to responses.

has your female laid yet today? i am hoping my female pops out the rest of her clutch today

I am technically challenged so a camera is not an option for me. The thing is I just don't know if she laid eggs or not. She disappeared in the pot again last night . She is up today but the only thing I have seen in a few days is her tail. She has absolutely not seen me at all. I just can't dig to see if there are eggs because that would be disturbing her so I wait and wait. I also can not see enough of her to see if she is thin. The eggs are not fertile so it is just I am concerned with her health. How many times can she make that journey. My niece mentioned to our vet that she was digging to the bottom of her laying pot after the second time and she did not seemed concerned, but I can not say the same about me.

I really hope both our girls bury their eggs really soon

when she is done she will fill in the hole and go back up her branches. Until then I would consider her still Gravid

?

Did she ever lay? and a great way that i monitor if my female has laid is by checking her weight on a gram scale almost daily really quick as to stress her as little as possible.. other than that MY FEMALE has hung out around the laying bin for a few days but still hasnt popped them out yet!!! AHHH!! I am stressed please let me know how your female ends up
