2 veileds to house

Hello, this is my first post here on these forums. Recently (3 days ago) my Dad came back from a trip to Florida. With him he brought two veiled chameleons. So now I really need to get these guys separated and into their own houses.

I have been doing lots of reading so far here on this forum. I am an experienced reefkeeper so I know the value of reading, then read some more.

What I need to figure out is how I am going to go about this. So why not ask some of the experience members here? I was considering making my own cages as I'll need 2 to start out. But after reading that a 2x2x4 might be overwhelming for young chams to start out with. What would you suggest on the cage size to start? The chams are still young and about 5" from nose to tail base. (don't know the exact age yet...)

I may just purchase two alum.cages and make my life easier, but I have all the wood and materials minus the screen here. Suggestions?

just purchase 2 aluminum cages and make your life easier.
you can, after that, build bigger enclosures for both of them if you want.
5" SVL is quite big already and they should not be housed together.

If you could post some pics of the feet so we can sex them. If you have a female, you can use an 18x18x36 cage

also males will have a nipple on the back of their back foot so that is how you can tell them apart yourself.

I am pretty sure I have a male and female. Only one has the 'nipple' on his feet. Currently in a 10g, and in about an hour I am going to the local pet store and get another heat lamp + screen cover for a second temp. 10g.

My Dad got them from a pet store in Fl. The breeder also works there so he got to meet him and got his business card.

No heat lamp is needed. You will need a linear UVB bulb for both, or a 48" one if you have the cages next to each other. If you want something inexpensive until you can get some large wooden cages built buy 2 reptariams. They are mesh and go together easily. For basking you will need clamp light fixtures with a 60 watt household bulb in each, one per cage. You should also get a thermometer/hydrometer so you can check basking temps (85 deg is great), ambient cage temps 70-75 deg and nighttime temps 10 degrees lower. Make sure you have foliage in the cage for cover and to cool off. Why am I typing all this? Check out the kitty link below. All the information is there. if you have some money to spend and you already have plants and lights and all the equipment i have 2 24x24x36 cages and they were 60 a piece from reptiledepot.com just to throw it out there b cuz the cages are very nice, they can handle direct contact from heat lamps and bulbs and will not burn.

At 5" snout to vent they are ready for big cages. That's a same size as my jacksons and they each have a 2x2x4 cage.
