10week Veiled

Hey everyone,

Norman is my first Chameleon and I have had him for 6 weeks now...which makes him 10weeks old. He measures approx 2 inches snout to vent and then has about another 2 inches of tail when its not curled up. I was wondering if he looks okay, and is he a appropriate size for his age? I don't own a veiled so I cannot tell you if he is size appropriate but he sure is a cutie pie!!!! i like his color patterns also.!

he is a doll! About his size, I can't be sure with nothing to compare him to. However 2" s/v sounds about right. Where did you ever get a 4 week old cham for your first cham? If you want us to take a look at for husbandry you could fill out this WAY long form and we can offer any advice to keep your baby tip top condition.

Thanks for your kind words! Here is my info, it would be great to have someone check over it for me...just to be certain i am doing this right!

Chameleon Info:

* Your Chameleon - Male Veiled Cham. 10 weeks old, Ive had him since he was 4 weeks.
* Handling - This week I have handled him once a day to take him outside for some sunshine.
* Feeding - Mostly 2 week old crickets. I feed him 3 times a day, as many as he can eat. Crickets are gutloaded with cricket feed, oatmeal, kale, apples, strawberries, carrots etc....whatever my bearded dragons are eating that day. On occasion he gets tiny mealmorms (which he loves.)
* Supplements - Rep cal brands without d3 every day except Sunday. Calcium with D3 and Multi Vitamins alternating on Sundays.
* Watering - I mist him about 4 times a day and have a dripper running all day. Ive seen him drink from the dripper only.
* Fecal Description - Dark brown with white urates. He has not been tested for parasites, although I do have a vet lined up if I need her.
* History - I bought my Cham at a reptile expo and the person selling him was not helpful at all. He would not sex the Chameleon for me, and when I asked questions he answered very briefly. From looking at pictures online, I wonder if he was even 4 weeks old when I got him...he looked much younger. He was barely over an inch and had no casque.


Cage Info:

* Cage Type - Screen exo terra 18x18x24. (I have a 4 foot cage waiting for when he grows larger.)
* Lighting - 5.0 UVB strip lighting 50watt house hold bulb for basking.
* Temperature - Digital therm says its 83 on the basking branch and it drops to 72 on the bottom of the cage. Overnight its approx 72.
* Humidity - Not digital Hydrometer (I have a digital one on order) says its between 50 and 60 percent.
* Plants - Ficus, Pathos, and I cant remember the third but it was on a "safe" list for Chams.
* Placement - Its in my office/reptile room. I took the closet doors off the closet and placed him in there. There is room to vent around his cage, but he is sheltered from seeing all other animals/ breezes / air vents. His cage is on top of a 2 foot high table.
* Location - Vancouver BC Canada

Wow...that's a baby! Many breeders won't even sell their babies until they are at least 12 weeks old. You've obviously done a good job with him though. I'm just saying "him" because male is the typical default in English...I have no idea. I look forward to more pictures as he (or she) matures.

Okay I will get on that today. My superworm breeding project is taking much longer then anticipated...Ive had the beetles for 2 weeks ...but no baby worms. Anyone else breed supers? How long does it take for the eggs to hatch?

For the silks and horns I've only seen jumbo ones at my pet store...but I never thought to ask if they have small ones.

I breed supers and it takes a LONG time. You might have to order your silkworms online. I'm not sure where the keeper from Canada get them.

i was doing a LOT of surfing yesterday trying to find anything to do with Chameleons, & i found a company called silkworms.ca , which had the lowest prices i have seen so far on silkworms & waxworms. Their others feeders were slightly higher than other sites i had found, but i think you should check it out

I will thanks for the tip! Where do you order your crickets from? Im paying $25 for 500 right now at the pet store....

i actually dont have a cham yet, Harry from Chroma is supposed to get back to me today or tomorrow to let me know what is available from a specific panther clutch of his....that being said, the lowest price i have found on crickets is Cham Nation, with Feeder Factory being a close 2nd. I do not know if they have shortages due to the virus
