1 week into having a veild chameleon.

Hi guys today is my 8th day in havung a Veild chameleon. Unfortunately I'm not sure the sex or age of my chameleon. (Whom I've named Dobby) I've heard males have a small pump under they'r tails & on the back of the feet. Im not seeing any bumps so im leaning towards female? Dobby is about 2inches body 4inches with tail . I know it depends on habitat and the care they are given on how they grow. But I'm assuming she's a few months. I keep her in a 16x 16x 30x open air aluminium screen cage. Yes I know I need have a bigger cage soon but for right now I think she' ok. I keep the top basking area at 85° and the cooler area at 70°\75° . Humidity was hard to keep at first but I added some more live plants and it stays around 50/60. For her lights both are a exo terra uvb 100. Repti glow 5.0 compact. 26 watts. For his basking light it' 75 watts . So far I've given her calcium without d3 on her morning crickets and then her night crickets I give them without calcium. I also have calcium with d3 and a multivitamin . I read the calcium with D3 I give 1/2 a month. And the multivitamin once a month. I don't have a dripper yet I'm waiting for my local pet store to re stock. However I mist all throughout the day. Whenever I'm out to work one of the 5 other people in my house will mist her cage. I leave her lights on from 7am-7pm. I guess I'm just trying to get some reassurance that I'm doing okay. And get some knowledge on what else I need or could do. Also I have a pathos & schefflera plant. I've tried feeding her mealworms but she doesn't eat them only crickets so far. . You're right, your cham looks like a female. Stick to the crickets, mealworms can cause impaction. For your enclosure, add some extra foliage at the top, as this provides hiding for when she is basking. Provide a laybox for when your female lays infertile eggs once she is old enough. Happy chameleon keeping!

If you do not know her age exactly, than for her size, you should put the laybox in there probably within the next 2 months just to be safe, as they will need it throughout her life. (If you estimate her age based on size [she looks within 3 months], you should put it in probably at 5 months just to be safe, as you never know when she will be old enough to start laying eggs)

I need help I'm worried about my baby chameleon. From my understanding and other people on another thread I have a Female veild chameleon. Approximately 4/5 months old. I got her from petco and have had her for 2 months. Her main source of food is crickets and I dust them without d3 calcium about 2 times a week because whenever I give her it white stuff comes out her nose. Then with d3 I do 1-2 times a month. In the 2 months that I've had her she's shed once.she is Usually active I see her move around but about 3 days ago I notice she started becoming a little lethargic. She has not eaten in 3 days and I have not seen her drink. I typically don't see her drink but I know she does because her poop/pee are always healthy looking. I keep her in a 18" x 18" zoo med alluminum cage. Heat I keep around 79-82 although it's been a bit cooler the last week maybe 77/78. Her lights are on 12 hours a day and I mist throughut the day if I'm not home another person will mist her. Today I just got her a dripper im worried she might be dehydrated. She not very active will only move a little and that's not normal. She opens her eyes when I go to take her out but normally she gets mad and will hiss a little but right now she just stays still and then once I take her out she'l kinda stare at me then close her eyes and just sleep. I don' know how to hydrate her if I'm misting and misting and She won' drink. Do they stop eating right before they shed ? I'm really worried and hope someone can help.

The picture of her sleeping is of tonight, and the one of her walking was yesterday the only time I seen her walkig

Okay I will deffinetly be getting a higher heat lamp tomorrow!! If you don't think it's from the calcium what would you think the white stuff is from? It only happens after I give the calcium? I read quiet a few forums where they think it' to much calcium .
 
So many people think it's calcium...but believe me it's salts of other elements...not calcium. I don't know why it would be only happening then unless there is something in the powder that it doesn't need/has enough of. It's not harmful to the chameleon to have the white stuff come out its nose unless it builds up enough that it blocks the nose...and I've personally never seen that happen.

As for the heat light for basking...you can use a white household incandescent light bulb of a wattage that produces the right temperature in the basking area.
 
Okay I will make sure her temp is in the low 80's would you suggest that I need a night heat lamp as well. At night it gets around 60 ? For most everything I read they said 60s is fine for night . But they do have the ceramic no light heat bulbs at petco that I can buy if needed. Looking at the pictures I posted do you think she looks healthy?
 
I've never had to use a heat emitter at night because I had an electric heater in the reptile room set to come on if the temperature ever got below 60 (if/when my furnace broke and I didn't notice because I was cozy in my own bed)...but the chameleon should be ok down to 60 as long as it can get warm whenever it needs to during the day.

Low to mid 80's F is a good basking range for your chameleon during the day.

I think your chameleon looks fine right now.
 
Yes I've checked before and there are no bumps behind her feet. So I believe it' female. And for substrate I just have a green terrarium mat and in one of the corners I have very little sphagnum moss. My chameleon never goes all the way to the bottom where the moss is i keep a close on on that because i know that it could cause impaction. I just added it hoping it would keep the humidity in . I have a hard time keeping the humidity it' usually around 50

Take out the carpet please, it can breed bacteria and gets gross very quick.
