My husband and I are very big in all reptiles but mostly Chameleons. We are planning on buying another chameleon this month but both my husband and I prefer to buy from breeders locally as most people hope to. For the last 2 weeks we have been going into a local pet store here in London Ontario where we buy some of our feeders and have bought pets from them in the past. Whenever my husband and I decide to buy another animal we do as most people do and figure out what you want. set up your new pets home. find a pet. we like to put a deposit to hold the animal and come back within 2 weeks and buy the animal. we both figure this way gives us an extra 2 weeks on our warranty so to speak. That way you have those extra 2 weeks of watching for signs of illness. When we went into the store thinking about putting a deposit down on a cham they have there. and for the second time visiting her she was standing on the bottom of the tank. shes a little on the heavy looking side. and when I brought it to the staffs attention and suggested that they should put a laying bin within the tank incase she is gravid. the staff then replied " impossible! shes been alone in that tank! " and I am thinking what for the two weeks shes been here!? she could be gravid without mating! he then said "either way she will let them go in just substraight!" I replied " and if she doesnt which she prob. won't she will become egg bound and die." Dont worry I am in the process of writing a letter to the owner as well as I plan on going in first thing in the morning to set up an appointment with the owner. Its this kind of things that make me wish that you had to pass a test and get a liscence to own a pet. geez
