    Separate container feeding

My vet recommended feeding my chameleon in a separate container i.e. his travel case. He's about 3 mos old and had a bunch of health problems which have been resolved. I have been feeding him in his travel case which has been great since it makes it easier for him to see the food and i know that...

    Phoenix worms

Has anyone fed his/her chameleon phoenix worms? My vet told me he read an article about them the other day and recommended them. From what I understand, they are very high in calcium. I ordered some online today.

I help!: I have to make a life or death decision today I have had a thread or two up about this chameleon i got from the exotic animal and reptile show 2-3 weeks ago. We have gone to the vet every week and emergency vet once( 2 days after i got him!). He had to be hospitalized yesterday. He...

Signs of stress? What are signs of stress? Yesterday was very stressful for my chameleon, the sickly one mentioned in my other thread. Today he has been very lethargic and not interested in anything. I put off giving him his anti-parasitic and calcium bc that requires a lot of handling...

Something having meaning to someone is completely subjective. If Lymorg and Friend feels that her attempt to save her chameleon was worth it to her, then it was. No one can determine that for her. Zerah Morris, since you were concerned about the LLL situation. When I called last week, the guy...

    Help sleepy chameleon

The first chameleon I had was wild caught and except for a skin infection, he was in perfect health. He didn't even have any parasites. I only paid $20 for him. I paid $170 for my current sickly chameleon. I am not happy that the first few days I had him I had to shed a couple hundred bucks. I...

    sick flaped-neck

It depends if they do tests and give you meds. At the vet I go to, the office visit is $45 plus whatever is going on. If this is your first vet visit they will probably do a fecal smear and that is around $20 where i go. I dropped $120 the other day. My chameleon needed a couple meds though.

MBD is the acronym for Metabolic Bone Disease. It's like rickets for reptiles. It's caused by a calcium deficiency whether by husbandry or too much phosphorous i.e. unbalanced phosphorous-calcium ratio. It can cause breaks and deformities. In my particular case, it is early and hasn't gotten to...

I talked to a guy at LLL, he said not to give my chameleon the calcium injections. He said without a bone density test, they wouldn't know for sure. I am torn about what to do.

Back from the vet I am back from the vet. He does have early stages of mbd; however, it was caught early enough. He has injectable calcium then he will go back to oral calcium. Poor guy also has an intestinal parasite-coccidia(sp?). Ergo the other chameleons probably have that too. When I get...

    Help sleepy chameleon

I want to see exactly what his health problem is, and go from there. If it is something simple and inexpensively treatable then i can do that. If it is mbd, I will ask for a refund. If it is something inexpensively treatable (not mbd), should i still call? If so, what should I say? Thanks again!

Whenever I tug under his chin, he closes his eyes. It's getting quite difficult. Maybe he loves me so much he would never want to be unfavorable to me :p We have a vet appt tomorrow so hopefully i will get that spatula thing. You're right chameleons do not look good in speedos.

I usually get the syringe ready and hold him in one hand. I will try the under the chin thing. I'm a little nervous about sqeezing his jaw bc he's so little and fragile. I tried to gently squeeze him jaw and kept lightly tapping his mouth with the syringe. I think he ate a cricket or two today...

    Help sleepy chameleon

I am really concerned about his tremors as he walks. It is visible it when he reaches to grab onto another branch. I just tried to give him his medicine but apparently wasn't agitated enough to open his mouth. I put it on his lips in hopes that he'll lick it off.
