I’ve noticed some chew marks on the tree trunk of my centerpiece ficus tree. One side of the tree trunk is now stripped of tree bark. I’ve had another centerpiece with the same chew mark which died subsequently.
The isopods I have are very aggressive eaters. They devour anything that I attempt...
I like the idea of schefflera. I would like to replace my centerpiece plant, but I'm not sure if it's feasible to uproot the whole plant without majorly disrupting the substrate.
Right now I am just catching the gnats daily with a vacuum cleaner, and it seems to help a lot. I read about sundew...
Thanks guys,
I was on the fence about adding additional branches or jungle vines. I want to have a small piece of a forest in my living room, and random branches that appear out of nowhere looks very unnatural.
@PabloTheCham
I put in 30 isopods into the enclosure, but I didn't let the...
Thank you so much for the feedback!
Do you think I need to add more plants and horizontal branches?
I got the isopod from a seller who sells them as pocket pets for kids. Needless to say, the seller has no idea what kind of isopod this is. Checkout the image below and maybe you can tell me...
Hello friends,
I built my first bioactive enclosure based on my some research and people’s advise. I just want to get some feedback from you all, but first I have a few concerns.
The chameleons (female veiled) is doing well as far as I can tell. She eats and drinks normally, and I don’t see...
Thanks guys. I got some really useful advise from cyberlocc. He gave me some instruction to build the box myself. The only difference is that he recommended PVC trim boards, which is easy enough to get from home depot. Hopefully he will upload the soil bin guide soon, which will be posted here...
How do you deal with drainage?
BTW, my veiled chameleon is doing much better now after laying 38 most likely infertile eggs. (Most of them started to mold.)
I have been searching for a substrate tray to put inside my XL Reptibreeze enclosure (24x24x48). Everything I found online so far are pretty expensive ranging from $60-250 a piece after shipping. I was wondering if anybody came across a suitable piece of equipment, or has a better solution. (See...
She is looking a lot better! A lot more physically active, and now she’s able to climb around without any problem. She is still not eating, but she’s been drinking tons of water.
I kept the eggs in a clear plastic shoe box. The substrate is coco coir (the only thing I have on hand). I’m leaving...
Update:
As of this morning, she laid a total of 34 eggs. I think she is done for now; I saw her attempting to bury the eggs. I’ll incubate the eggs and upload pictures in a week.
I think she will be able to make it based on her energy level.
Quick update.
I removed some of the eggs from the enclosure, and I counted 26. A couple more eggs came out of her as I was picking them up. I will check on her again later tonight.
Question: Do these look like they are fertile? They look both yellowish and whitish depending on the lighting.
Thanks for the advise. I have already come to term with the fact that she may not survive the ordeal. But after what I just saw, it gave me new hope. Not sure if it is well founded, but at least I know she is not egg bound. I also want to believe that if she has the strength to push those eggs...
Thanks for the quick reply. As of now, she is still lying on the floor next to her eggs. I would rather not disturb her for a while in case she is still in the process of laying eggs. I will keep you updated if I anything changes.
According to my research, she could spend the next few hours...
Hello All,
I posted a couple of days ago because my female veiled stopped eating. You folks said it was because she's gravid, and you folks were right!
I had a laying bin in the enclosure, and I put a few branches in there for her to get in and out as you guys suggested.
(See original post...
@PabloTheCham
Noted. Is there anything I can do right now to help her regain her strength? e.g. Not turning off the heat source at night time. Feeding her water with calcium and vitamin supplement in it

Hello all, OP here.
Thank you all for the valuable input. I have some branches laying around, and I put some in just now.
Question: Should I help her get into the laying bin? or leave her in peace?
@kinyonga
The bin was put in 3 days ago. How do I know if she is egg bound, and what do I do if...
Please let me know what I can do to help my poor chameleon! I’m really worried, and I don’t want to lose her!! I used to have many different reptiles many years ago, but this is my first time caring for a chameleon. That said, I do have some basic knowledge with reptile and chameleon husbandry...
