    "Contaminated" water in bioactive enclosure

It was quite a few dead roach carcasses that were decomposing. Serves me right for forgetting to plug the pipe

    "Contaminated" water in bioactive enclosure

Thanks. I was able to dig out a bunch of the nastiest stuff and mix the rest up so it was less solid, more liquid that can slowly siphon out as the water raises. Just need to put a new PVC pipe in now

    "Contaminated" water in bioactive enclosure

I wonder if I may be using too much misting. I do 2mins every 9am and 8pm, and a 30 second mist at 2pm. Setup is a dual nozzle mist king system. Regarding bacteria: I meant possible issues in the actual drainage layer (where my rocks are) which my isopods/springtails can't normally reach (due...

    "Contaminated" water in bioactive enclosure

Long story short, I had forgotten to plug the PVC pipe I use to siphon out excess water from my bioactive enclosure, for at least a month or so. I went to finally siphon out the water and hit a very mushy layer in the tube. After a lot of fiddling, I found several decomposed roach carcasses...

    Eating Pothos

If a vine is picked clean but it is still rooted in the soil good will it grow back it's leaves eventually? Or should I figure I need to replace most of the pothos at some point?

    Eating Pothos

Dubia roaches. He eats a lot, not picky. Has large, good poops and urates. But by lord, does he still pick the Pothos clean lol

    Eating Pothos

Hey all, So....is there anyway to discourage my Veiled from eating the Pothos plants? I know it is safe, but he is picking the vines clean. Every time a new leaf/offshoot pops up, he chows down. I'm actually losing more leaf coverage than I started with despite the vines growing really long...

    Eating plants

My new veiled George has been settling in great. But I noticed he seems to be taking bites out of the Pothos plants a lot as of the last two weeks (he doesn't seem to care to eat the Schefflera's). Is too much plant eating a bad thing/sign of an issue? Thanks!

    Meet my new veiled: George

Ok, now the cage is complete. Gave George a little bit of a background on two sides so he wasn't starring at a dull painted wall.

Got my grow light finally. The setup is now complete. And he's finally allowing me to take pictures without running away. Woohoo

    Veiled Basking Question

I raised the light a tad more and now temps at his basking location are 80-82 degrees. Temps closer to the actual screen are around 90-94 (like an inch below it). The screen itself is still very hot to the touch and reports as a surface temp of around 125-130 directly under the bulb. Not sure...

    Veiled Basking Question

So I'm working on getting my basking temps just right for my Veiled. Right now, with a 75w bulb, the temp in the area of where his body occupies under the bulb is around 88-92 degrees. From advice of members and reading the Chameleon Academy guide, I am trying to get my temps down to around...

    Meet my new veiled: George

Ohhhh. I did not know that. I just saw a lot of threads and guides that said "95 will keep your chameleon happy". But I guess they were dated older. I'll snag some 60 watts then. Thanks!

    Meet my new veiled: George

75w The actual basking temp is ideal though, right? I thought anything under 95 in the area they occupy is ideal (85-95). Whether I raise the light more or get a 60w, while that would lower the temp of the actual metal screen it would also lower the basking temp no?

    Meet my new veiled: George

With the riser, air temps underneath the lamp, halfway between the branch and screen top, are around 88 degrees. Temp directly below the screen are about 96 degrees. The metal screen itself is pretty damn hot though, around 125 degrees. So I'll keep an eye on him ever climbing on the screen...

    Isopod Starters

Thanks! There are plenty of fresh leaves (one layer of dried leaves then a good healthy layer of fresh Pothos leaves from the vines I didn't plant in my cage). And That's a good idea with the dead roaches James. I will toss a carcass in one a week. Until they become established, should I be...

    Meet my new veiled: George

Only thing left I am waiting on is the fixture for the grow light I have. The Pothos plants seem to have all taken hold well and going strong. But figure the light will help the Schefflera's stay nice and healthy. A nutrient question: If I am properly feeding my Dubia's, how often should I be...

    Isopod Starters

I got a starter colony of Canyon Iso's and put them into my Bioactive setup last week (Wednesday I believe). How long does it usually take for them to "take hold" and become a stable CUC? Just checking on feces droppings, I haven't seen any activity of eating or anything of that sort. They have...
