This morning my wife was first to go look at the veiled we have. She told me she thought it was dead.... Dark and totally immobile.
I go to look at it, initially I thought it was dead... Perched on a vine. Then I see its eyes move about.
It usually will move away unless it's feeding from hands...
Im hugely disappointed with my attempts at raising silkworms.
My first batch of 500 eggs from Coastal hatched...almost every egg. I ended up with 40 survivors and after two months even some of these are small.
I exchanged some emails with the owner of Coastal about the raising. Made...
my veiled often gets superworms only to quickly take a bite of one side and the breaks off and falls to bottom of enclosure.
Will they eventually realize what happens and get the rest(dead).
Should I put in food cup and hope he eats rest from there?
How long do they live?
How long do they live at max size?
How long until the reach maturity?(pupate)
General lifecycle?
I'm thinking of adding these too my feeders being farm.
Mind you for one chameleon. It will be in addition to dubias and silkworms.
Additional are not a huge concern.... Chickens.
I got my veiled eating readily out of my hand with dubia and crickets(phased out of diet)
I cannot get him to eat supers or silks out of my hand. He devours them out of the cup feeder though.
i purchased 500 eggs, I'm sure there was more than 500
Almost alk seems too have hatched. 5-6 weeks later(very slow growth to what I expected) I have only a little over 100 survived.
It seems they are succumbing to death by possibly dehydration.
I fed them cow once or twice a day, most of...
My silkworms seem to be extremely small for about three weeks after hatching.
I was led to believe after 30 or so days they are ready to pupate.
They are maybe 3/4" long and the diameter of a heavy paperclip at best.
i guess in happy my chameleon is shedding FAST....
No signs of it at 8:00 this morning and 1:00 (5 hours) it's complete
But what behaviors do they exhibit while shedding out of norm?
My guy seems awful feisty(mad as hell) and elusive......and not much interested in some noshing.
Even after shed!
seems like I waste awful lot of food
Not sure if I'm simply giving too much or if it is drying out quicker than they can eat
Any solutions if you've experienced this?
i just talked to my breeder of veiled..... Twenty years experience. Her animals seem very healthy and are around for years at the show.
She recommends calcium with d3 and heroavite every first feeding and only the calcium with for second feeding.
Never had any issues.....
So what gives? This...
i thought this would be the consistency of hard cheese by the directions off grating it
It doesn't realty grate as much as glops of the"brick"
Did I do something wrong? And suggestions to make it easier to handle?
Heres my feeder cup that will go inside a cork tube for a natural look
But what do people use on the back surface for the roaches and crickets to climb up on?
Would Velcro work?
Or the newer plastic interlock thing similar to Velcro?
