I'm just curious why there seems to be so few people breeding these guys? Is it lack of interest in the hobby or are they difficult to breed?

I think a portion of this thread got deleted.... I took him into the vet as an emergency on Saturday and he passed away in their care. They thought he had something when I got him because he was pretty bad off in general

Me too :( they are family to me. I don't think I can stand to see him like this for another week.... I'm gonna call again tomorrow and see what I can do

Ok.... Is this normal? He lays like this sometimes but I didn't have pictures of it. He isn't asleep, that is his bad eye.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I don't feel as freaked out by everything anymore. I'm used to active reptiles so I'm having a hard time figuring out what "normal" is for a chameleon :/

I had a 100 watt day bulb in there, I'll get another white one but red was the only lower wattage I had laying around.

Ok, I'll swap his heat bulb to a 60 watt and take out a UVB bulb. This is what it looks like now

Also, someone asked about shedding.... He has not shed with me yet. He has some stuck on his head that I'm gonna ask the vet to look at.

I'm worried if I take out a cfl he won't get enough UVB because of the fixture.... A picture will show what I mean better. It will only cover half the cage with 1....

You were probably typing this up as I filled out the how to ask for help form, it's posted now as a reply. He's from a chain store so he is most likely imported.

I guess the picture doesn't show it well but he keeps that eye closed. Always. He doesn't care if I touch him anywhere as far as I can tell. Don't get much of a reaction at all, which is another worry... I am taking him for a full checkup/consultation and to get these specific concerns addressed.

Mine has been doing this and scaring the crap out of me. I think he has the vitamin A deficiency problem as well and I couldn't get a vet appointment earlier than a week from now and it's already been a few days :/ Would you guys consider this an "emergency"?
