Make sure you have a good hydrometer to measure the humidity and yes people do use plastic around some of the screen enclosure to keep the levels up. Shower curtains work well.
I get my water for the mister from one of those reverse osmosis vending machines at the supermarket. It is only $.35 a gallon. It doesn't clog my nozzles or leave any mineral deposits.
I keep my butters and wax worms in oatmeal or bran in the fridge. No need to feed them. Reptiworms need to be kept more moist in a topsoil substrate and not in fridge and I feed them all the old greens, fruits, sweet potatoes that the crickets or roaches don't eat. If the bran/oats get wet the...
I also added some more ventilation holes in the tub that I have the crickets in and found that the oranges lasted longer without molding due to the better airflow and lower humidity.
Well I have figured out my Cham does NOT like it when I wear a red shirt. He runs away and hides faster than when the mister hits him LOL. I know red is usually a sign of aggression so it kind of makes sense.
I get mine from reptiworms.com. 300 smalls shipped for $16. I feed them sweet potato and mustard greens. They come in a compost dirt and it is safe if the Cham happens to ingest a little. I keep mine in the container they come in at room temp.
My 7 month old veiled will only eat the hornworms when they are small. I have some that have gotten to be 4 inches now. I am hoping they will cocoon and turn into moths.
Well my veiled is 7 months old. He went on a hunger strike in December and wouldn't eat crickets anymore. I then got horned worms and he loved them. I also got some reptiworms and silks. He also gobbled them up. Now he wants nothing to do with the hornworms and Silks. He only wants reptiworms...
I'm in NorCal (Sacramento area) and we don't have any fires but it is warm and extremely dry. I am going to get a cool mist humidifier since my house it only 19% humidity. We need rain bad.
It has been awfully dry here in Northern California. Yesterday my humidity in my house was down to 19%. My enclosure is barely keeping 30%. I am going to add a humidifier to the room. I am guessing the cool ones are better than the warm ones? Any brand/model preferences?
