    fly help....

Rebecca and Mansitsplace are awesome. As far as if any hatch out on their way to you, it would depend on what shipping option you chose and how many ice packs will be included. I'm in Fort Worth, did not pay for the priority shipping, just went with their "feeder fly" shipping, and one cold...

    fly help....

Agreed that spikes would be the way to go. I went with the pupae and ended up having a lot of them hatch out in the box on their way to me. I live in Texas though, and the temps were in the high 90's low 100's when they were delivered. I'd also recommend making sure the shipment contains a...

    Flys?

Hello! I'm surprised you haven't received a response yet. Here is a link to the Veiled care sheet - https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/veiled/. Read it, and everything else you can find, on your new baby. Good preparation in the beginning will save you lots of problems later on...

    Variety for Canadians?

I can't answer your questions specifically, but I just recently tried the Blue Bottle Flies from http://www.mantisplace.com/ and my Jackson's absolutely LOVES them. You can buy them as spikes (maggots) or as pupae, and hatch them out yourself. I went with the pupae and they are super easy to...

Tip Of The Week - pt 1

Great tips, I really like the heating pad idea. My Jackson's detests getting hit with the mist when I mist his enclosure, I'm betting some warm water will help with that. Thanks!

    What do you do?

I also do all three. I'll usually cup feed my Jackson's two or three of whatever it is I'm feeding just for the peace of mind of knowing he is eating, and then dump the rest into his enclosure so he can hunt. Hand feed when the occasion arises.

    Getting his shed on!

My Liege starting his first shed since coming home with us, I take it as a good sign! Brings up a good point, in a lizard, is it considered shedding or molting?

Question about live plant size vs plastic mix

Regarding the plants, when at all possible real are recommended over fake. If you look around at some of the posts here you'll find a wide variety of shapes and heights being used. One of the best live plant threads I've read is here...

Reasons why real chams need real plants!

Patrick, Your wonderful post has convinced me to take the plunge to live plants for my Jackson's and I'll be hitting my local nurseries and Lowes this weekend. My question is, I'm assuming most store bought plants will have been fed fertilizers which I understand is not recommended for...

    Chameleon Tank Help

I have my juvenile Jackson's in the Zoomed Naturalistic, 18x18x24. Same basic design as your Exoterra, and he is is doing great so far. Sticktongue has it right in that these terrariums are made to create the chimney effect to keep air circulating. One small concern might be your proposed...

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm going to give this a try!

    Can I plant this?

Regarding the substrate, the overall consensus is you should not use it for chameleons. Not only for the risks of impaction, but for the potential of bacterial growth from all of the moisture from mistings, drip systems...etc. However, I too have seen many chammy setups that do use a...

    Greetings & Meet "My Liege"

Ok, you have my attention! Blue bottle flies... I'm looking at the mantisplace.com site now. Do you get the pupae? If so, can they fly right after hatching, or do they just walk around? Do you use a cup when feeding them to your chammy? Inquiring minds want to know!

    Can I plant this?

I'll preface my reply by stating I have my newly acquired Jackson's in the Zoomed Naturalistic tank. However, it is top vented and has vents all along the front. I've used a few different methods to make sure there is good airflow throughout the tank, and enough so that it fully dries out...

    Greetings & Meet "My Liege"

Not at all kplatvoet, I do appreciate the feedback. I agree, too many variables and I did have to go with what currently works best for our immediate situation. So far, so good, but we are watching him closely! Man is he a lot of fun though, I can literally sit there and watch him for an hour...

    Greetings & Meet "My Liege"

kplatvoet, First I want to say thanks much for the feedback and advice. Yes, I did mention a tank, and honestly I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice and say something! lol.. Anyway, I made sure to do my research on the care for Jackson's, and chameleons in general, and...

    Greetings & Meet "My Liege"

Thanks for the input all. I agree, and will leave him be. He's a heck of a lot of fun to watch so far, the kids get a kick out of watching him eat, and he is a great educational tool!
