i use exo-terra, they are excellent. they have a good texture but are sturdy enough to stand up to your cham if he chooses to have a chomp at them, and are easier to wash.
sorry to hear that he fell! look for jerky movements, swollen areas, or any joint that he may seem to be favouring. i'm sure he's okay- chameleons tend to puff themselves up when they fall so they don't get too hurt. mine took a bad fall once and was a little sore for about a week, but fine...
this'll sound like a stupid question, but are superworm beetles dangerous to chams? or can they eat them? i found one in cricket's cage one day and it dropped into a plant before i could catch it. will it bite him if he doesn't eat it first? CAN he eat it?
oh my god O_O that's awful.
if a chameleon bites you, i've heard, your best bet is not to pull away- less damage if you let them let go themselves. of course, if they shake their heads (mine does this when eating greens,) there isn't much you can do.
cricket has only ever mouthed me once...
hahaha. i always feel so bad for chams when they shed, looks so gross and uncomfortable! yours looks very cute... as for the eye thing, i'm not sure... if his urates are white he's probably not dehydrated... maybe best to take him to get checked if it doesn't improve, just to be safe.
some of them will never get used to it. i would recommend maybe hand-feeding her so that she at least begins to trust you and not percieve you as a direct threat, and take it very slow and careful. you can't really teach a chameleon to become tame. some of them don't mind being held, most will...
I made the same mistake when I first got my cham... 90 crickets in the cage! We got most of them out and distracted the rest with food. Luckily, my baby did not get bitten, but we learned that it's a definite no-no. Oh, and the noise was atrocious.
Ugh. Don't get me started on PetSmart. I once saw a fully grown male veiled housed in the following conditions:
- A glass terrarium about 2 feet long and maybe a foot and a half tall. Suitable for a small bearded dragon, maybe.
- Sand!
- A water dish.
- A piece of driftwood with a...
Oh yeah! Now that it's warm out, we have been opening the patio doors and letting the sun and warm wind come right in to Cricket's cage. He loves it, and usually hangs out in the corner closest to the open door, looking out the window and drinking in some real sun. We leave the curtain open in...
You're welcome ^_^
Yeah, $350 isn't too bad I guess. I'm a University student, so $350 is like a year's worth of Kraft Dinner, you know. I would say you're looking at probably at least that much if you don't build the cage yourself- fortunately the upkeep of a chameleon doesn't cost too much-...
Welcome fellow Canuck!
Before you get your cham, if you are VERY serious about it, make sure you buy all the supplies you need first and have it all set up so you can move your new cham in right away once you get one with as little hassle as possible. You don't want the thing climbing your...
the poor things :( i think it's despicable the way pet stores keep chameleons.
along with the good advice everyone else said... i'd take them to a vet. hopefully you can save them!
What about, er... blue veileds? I don't know how else to put it... I've noticed that mine has become more and more blue as he's gotten older. He's like a very dark bluish turquoise- a really rich shade of it. His spots are the same colour, although they turn black when he gets angry, and his...
