What fixture to use with MVB?

Hello all! I have a year old veiled chameleon and i'm getting a new enclosure setup for him. I am using the Apogee Reptarium http://www.bigappleherp.com/Reptarium-Cages and it is the 100 gallon tall 16X30X48". It is a nylon, 350 degree heat retardant mesh covered cage. According to big apple...

Where's the worst place you've found a feeder?

Had a roach escape from its critter keeper and I was laying in bed reading an article on my iPad, with the Iights off. Then I heard a soft fluttering sound and then a light thud on my pillow. I reached over and turned on the lights and sure it was a male dubias sitting on my pillow. I was...

Fruit flies for a 2-3 month veiled

What's the best/easier way to dust the fruit flies? I have them in their original container (which i bought from a reptile show) , that looks like an enlarged deli cup with a cotton soft gauze under the lid that also has holes drilled in it. They are growing and pupating on the bluish gel that...

Fruit flies for a 2-3 month veiled

Thank you for your advice! I wasn't feeding him as often as 2-3 times a day, but I just let a huge handful of fruit flies into his enclosure to let him hunt. Oh...and I was writing this I just saw him eat his first cricket! (or at least that I know of). Great to know he's at a decent weight! ^.^...

Fruit flies for a 2-3 month veiled

Oops, forgot to post pictures of him... Is he kinda skinny? Does he look dehydrated? Sorry, having a little trouble with my forum app... Won't let me post two images in same posting... Anyways, he walks around the enclosure relatively quickly (for a Cham) and appears to be totally alert and such...

Fruit flies for a 2-3 month veiled

So here is the photo with the cricket cup. I purposefully put a vine right in front of it so that fletch can walk across and see the crickets. I keep only like 4 of them in the cup at any given time. But he walks past, looks at them and keeps walking. So far I'm feeding him at least twice a...

Fruit flies for a 2-3 month veiled

Does anyone have any hints as to how to get my veiled to eat crickets? He's looking skinny to me and I'm worries... He's only eating fruit flies at the moment...I made a cricket cup thing out of an inverted bottle of rubbing alcohol and I even have a branch sitting right in front of that cricket...

Fruit flies for a 2-3 month veiled

Greetings to all! Just got my 2-3 month old veiled named Fletch. I'll post a pic when I can find time to get one. He's doing ok in his enclosure, but I just had one question. I have some Hydei fruit flies and was wondering about how many should I be feeding him on a daily basis? I offer him some...

    Deciding between veiled and graceful

Oops. Forgot to include information on my setup thus far. I have a r-zilla 12"-24"-28"h screen mesh cage. It is setup in the corner of my room and this is a low traffic area. I live in Los Angeles county and the temperature drops to 45ish during the winter ( at the worst) and is usually about...

    Deciding between veiled and graceful

Hey guys, So i'm new to chams but not to reptiles. I'm working on setting up my setup for a Cham, but when I was exploring a pet store, they had both veiled and graceful chams. I was told by the pet store owner that both have similar requirements except that the graceful requires lower...

    LED light for plants

Haha, sorry I read my box wrong... It is saying it has blue and white 60mW LEDs and are running about 300 lumens. And the 60mW spectrums was shown on thei box having a large blue spike (1.0% light intensity) and a 0.5% light intensity roughly at 560nm while tapering off through the red...

    LED light for plants

Thanks for the info guys ! I was looking around and research says that most plants can survive with mainly blue wavelengths, but require more red wavelengths to flower/fruit. I am currently setting up my Cham cage with a marineland single bright LED system. The box says that yes it is 1000k...

    Heavenly Bamboo

Hi everyone, I've noticed that Heavenly bamboo (Nandina domestica) is listed on the safe plant list, but i've noticed that there has been information on the plant being toxic (mainly to mammals). I just wanted to know if anyone has ever used this plant in their cham enclosures? Thanks!

    LED light for plants

So has anyone tried using something like an aquarium LED or hydroponic LED setup for plants in their Cham cage? This is in addition to the usual UVB light and any daytime light.

    Cricket cups?

Oh! I didn't think about bird feeder cups! That's a great idea. I"ll probably use those for my worm type feeders!

    Cricket cups?

Thanks everyone for your advice! I've always believed in training your pets to eat its food in many ways in case one method is no longer available. I live in Los Angeles and its kinda hard to find any local dubias sellers. I know I can order online for feeders, but does anyone who lives close to...

    Cricket cups?

I've seen some videos online where they put some mesh inside their cricket cups, but they seem to be using "sunny-D" containers that are cut away and then they velcro a mesh in the back to allow the crickets to climb up and also allow the Cham to see the crickets. I was wondering if anyone has...

    Cricket cups?

Hi everyone, I'm a beginner and was looking into getting a veiled for myself. I have raised a leopard gecko before so I am familiar with reptile care. I just wanted to do as much research into chams before I actually get one. My main question is that I don't want crickets running around in the...
