Reptile shows are usually a good place to pickup different feeders. I am sure LA probally has a monthly show of some sorts. I order a few things at a time when order bugs online that way you can often save on shipping. Check out some of the sponsors and try a little variety. Good luck.
Go with blue bottle flies. They are bigger and seem to do better than the captive house flies. My lizards love them! Only problem I have is sometimes my guy will go on a hunger strike after eating flies, be warned.
Bait shops usually carry crickets for a lot cheaper! They are the same ones that they sell for reptiles. Can use them in a pinch. They are not the cleanest place, so give them a day or two in a clean environment before feeding.
Really cool to see captive bred Senegal's. I love them but have always stayed away because they are always low quality wild caught ones that I see. I really hope you can start a new trend here. Best of luck. Love to see the babies.
I paid for a week of $40.00 a day plus test and I couldn't swing it any longer. I am a disabled vet and a full time student with two kids and a wife so money is tight. I wish I could swing for another week at the office but I just can't at the moment.
I had no luck! Not sure what to do from this point, going to call a few local vets tomorrow and see if I can get some help. I can't afford to go back to the exotic vet, it was $40.00 a day for the treatment at their office. Going to see if there is a rescue group in my area that could help maybe.
My boy is home. I need to give him 2.5 injection of water twice a day and they want me to force feed him also! Not looking forward to this. Any advice?
My guy is at the excotic vet now and they are hand feeding him and I wonder how this will affect him long term? They are saying his problem (kidney failure) is from under supplementing, he is a jacksons, and not dehydration? Which goes against everything I have read. I hope they know what they...
Thanks for the advice. I was very careful with his supplements in the past so I am leaning toward dehydration. Going to make sure I am spraying more/longer in addition to dripper and humidifier.
My boy is at the exotic vet and seems to be recovering from kidney failure. My question is do Chams usually have a decent life after a problem like this? Is he going to be prone to problems because of this issue? I know I need to get more water in my guy, going to keep an eye on the dripper and...
To be honest my gut loading was hit or miss. I would throw in what I happen to have in my house at the time and that was when I thought of it. I did use a dry feeder mix that I bought at my local expo from a cricket breeder and I used Fluker's cricket quencher.
I am stopping there today. She said it usually takes a biopsy to get a complete answer and most people elect not to do it because of cost or loss of the pet. I guess I am looking for more generic answers to improve things in the future.
My male Jackson is currently at the exotic vet. I was told that he is suffering from kidney failure and they are trying fluids and other treatments. What would cause this condition? I took my time and set up everyting right. Can this come from wild caught food, tap water, lack of water, hygine...
First, I dropped down to one 25 watt light. This room gets sun all day and stays really warm. Next, called back and I am taking him to the vet early tomorrow, wish us luck.
