    Husbandry Advice?

To the OP, You have the bulb you need. Just keep feeding and your little friend and he will shed when ready. There are a few other resources for information. Typically I would not spend the time or energy on somebody of your character. You demanded evidence in the middle of the night when I...

Arcadia Supplements // Hopping on the Hype Train?

Saying “reptile calcium” by zoo med is the same as Earth pro A” or even “Repashy calcium plus” would suggest you haven’t read the labels. You’re paying for the quality of ingredients as well as the time it took to research and balance them in a way that would be beneficial. As with most thing...

    Husbandry Advice?

Bill’s example is just that, an example. If you produce the same environment, lights fixtures, reflectors, ambient light (And other variables) in which he measured under, you will get the same readings as he did. I myself, with the fixtures and reflectors that I use, a ReptiSun 10.0 measures...

    Husbandry Advice?

A 10.0 UVB on a 36” cage? Are you using a solar meter? I’m using a 5.0 UVB (unfiltered) on a 5 foot tall enclosure and hit my target of 3 on the UVB index, 14” from the basking branch. I have a 10.0 bulb, but it was to strong. Hitting double digits on the UVB index, at the same range.

    Grasshoppers

So, Amazon delivered the grasshoppers - I feel this is an omen to abandon the idea. :cautious: Again, thank you all for your input. I will continue to search for a obtainable diurnal insect.

    Grasshoppers

Thank you, this is the exact type of feedback I’m looking for. I would not attempt to make these a staple, but do exactly as you said “A hand fed treat” on a non-feeding day. I’ll have a better idea of what I’m willing to do after I’ve examined the hoppers internal organs under the microscope...

    Grasshoppers

Thank you for your replies , I would typically agree with the statements above. Most packaged bugs are freeze dried and have very low nutritional value as well as being difficult to digest. My curiosity about this particular product is the way the hoppers are processed. I currently breed...

    Eragon didn't get the memo

To clear up any confusion this thread is generating, I will interject once more. You should definitely continue to build trust with your chameleons. It will make the interactions that are unavoidable less stressful and easier to tolerate. But, do not mistake them wanting out of their enclosure...

    Eragon didn't get the memo

You’re obviously taking offense to my statements. So I will now bow out of this conversation. Best of luck to you and yours.

    Eragon didn't get the memo

Petr Necas is well known and respected. I have read many of his article and own his book “Nature hidden jewel” (highly recommend it if you can find it) Bill Strand has a couple of interviews with him over at “chameleon breeder podcast” I also use Peters supplements, religiously. Periodic...

    Eragon didn't get the memo

I didn’t say they weren’t capable of emotions. They clearly get angry and show fear, which are emotions. I said they were incapable of affection. They are solitary, territorial creatures. You will not see 2 chameleons in the same enclosure or even in line of sight of each other coexisting in...

    Eragon didn't get the memo

I’m sorry to say, but your husbandry is incorrect and you’re miss reading their actions to find a better place to live, for affection, which they are not capable of. They are merely unhappy with their home more than they are scared of you. From what I can see, the enclosure you’re using is too...

New Chameleon not pooping: is there anything I can do?

He’ll poop when he’s ready. On a side note, chameleons need their sleep. The lighting schedule you listed is 15 hours on - 9 off, it should be 12 on - 12 off. If Your lights are on at 7 AM, they should be off by 7 PM and it should be as dark as possible during the night cycle.

    Solarmeter

3.5 is the max I expose the chameleon to. Directly under the basking spot, 3.0 Cheap lighting fixtures will prematurely deplete the bulb. If you’re going through bulbs quickly, maybe a lighting fixture upgrade is in order.

New Vivarium and a few Husbandry Changes

Interior design looks adequate, but minimum height from the top of the cage to the floor should be 6 foot. Also, I would move the cats food and water dish. Another animal being that close to his cage, is a potential source of stress.

Tips for weening a Chameleon off superworms

Try offering him crickets and different types of roaches. Non-worm shaped food items. You need to get him excited about something other than candy. How are you feeding him? free range? in a bowl? by hand? I prefer bowl feeding. It allows him to eat on his schedule and gets him excited when he...
