Hi I have a 5 and half year old (approx) male chameleon who i'm worried is on his way out, his set up is fine as is his supplementing and UVA is all good.
He's been eating and drinking as normal but he constantly goes to the bottom of his tank these last few days, often hiding behind something...
Thank you, I think it has made me think twice about keeping a female chameleon, i still have my male cham but right now im too scared to keep another female because they are so delicate. Everyone on this forum has helped so much, its so good to speak with other people who understand how it feels...
Little Midna passed this morning after being constipated and eggbounds, it is thought her digestive system just stopped working which stopped her laying eggs and made her too unwell for surgery. Didnt know chameleon death could be so traumatic, wish i could of saved her cant help feeling guilt...
Thank you all, I've had time to let it sink in but im suprised how much it can effect you. On further examination the vet said she may have had a problem with her bowels in general, perhaps genetic, she was very small for her age so maybe she just couldnt metabolize anymore, I wish she didnt...
Thank you, went to see her today but shes really weak, still constipated and gravid, laying on the bottom of the tank with her eyes shut, so not looking good but Im just praying she gets her strength up to actually have the surgery, as I think a weak chameleon going into surgery is never good...
My chameleon has been admitted into the vets and may have a possible surgery operation to remove eggs/impaction/poo from her belly, I was just wondering the success rate of chameleon surgery or if anyone has any experience with it as im extremely worried and paranoid about it!!
Any help/advice from anyone makes me feel better! Yeah i have given her a warm bath today resting her vent in there, which she appears to enjoy haha, and a warm misting, that obviously stimulated her to poo, which she just tried, was watching her for about 5 minutes pushing to get something...
UPDATE- She has laid eggs, about 14 without me realising, buried them all ect, but she is still large (bit lumpy in places), hasnt pooed at all just the urine bits scattered around, and is refusing food (which is odd for her as she loves food!) Her bum is still poking out but it has dried urine...
Okay I'll do that, its quite strange as it does reduce in size and look normal sometimes, but Iv noticed she hasnt pooed properly (only the white bit) for about a day and a half so maybe its constipation?? Iv been trying to hydrate her best I can but its quite scary as I dont want her to become...
I do have a chameleon vet yeah, but havent taken her there yet. She does have a laying box so she should lay if she needs too just very worried if may interfere with her laying, if it is a possible prolapse is there anything I can do to reduce the chances of this??? I want to avoid it at all costs.
