    Egg laying! Help

So luna decided she wanted to start laying while free roaming. Only weird thing is she has not dug. She laid 14 then went back inside her cage. She has her lay bin a soil sand mix she shows no intrest. Added a 2nd lay bin all sand to see if maybe she did not like the substrate of bin 1. Should...

    Is she overweight?

Here’s a great video on how to make a laying bin. I would make one ASAP. If she doesn’t have a proper place to lay her eggs, she could become egg bound. https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/laying-bin-set-up-educational-video.77225/

    Is she overweight?

Thank you! I do not! What do you recommend for a laying bin? What substrate should be used?

She has eggs and refuses to lay them

My post said containers…spellcheck changed it. I wanted photos of the legs and arms. You need to remove the coconut husk from the laying bin. In my experience washed play sand is the best egg laying substrate. Although some people do add some soil, I never have had any luck with that.

    Failed laying?

Sorry didn’t realize it cut me off in my last reply! So she’s laid 6 clutches (she was kind of a late bloomer lol) and they were all between 20-40 eggs. I did not cover her enclosure (I have not in the past either) but I will when I see her trying to lay again. And she was digging basically all...

    Discolored Spot

No problem, we’re here to help! Is the Biodude thermometer probed? If not, you’ll need to get a probed digital thermometer to measure her basking temp (placed where the top of her back is when she’s on her basking branch), and you want it to be 78-80*F there, as higher temps, along with...

I need help! Female veiled cham needs to lay eggs but is eating the lay bin sub.

...comfy - I talk a lot. ;) Because of that, I’ll break this into a few different posts. I’m not sure what to do about her eating the lay bin substrate. Usually we think they eat substrate due to nutrient deficiency. She has been getting too much vitamin D3 and multivitamins, so let me call in...

    Possible Follicular Stasis

Ya I have mixed feelings about the feeding daily. It makes sense since she was so depleted from her nutrients earlier but I worry this will make for bigger issues for her possible next clutch. I normally feed her today and tomorrow anyways so I have time for others to chime in on their...

Chameleon keeps going to the same spot

What substrate is in the lay bin? It looks like some sort of fibers. Best substrate to use is washed play sand moistened enough to hold a tunnel without collapsing. If she started to dig, but only for an hour, that wasn’t nearly enough time to lay eggs. I’d guess that she was just trying and...

    Was digging but now not??

While anything is possible, to the best of my knowledge they do not dig when receptive. Usually it is when gravid and ready/needing to lay their eggs. The warning signs you want to be alert for are lethargy, staying low in the enclosure or not basking, eyes closed during the day, not eating, and...

Bioactive in a hybrid dragon strand.

Should I get the plastic egg crate to put on top of the mesh? I’m visualizing what I want to do, I just want to make it ultra safe for her if she digs in the area.

    Possible Follicular Stasis

A trick I started doing once phones got capable of it is I record every session with a doctor or vet. I tell them that I prefer not to take notes and dont want to miss anything so please let me know when you are ready to explain everything. This lets the dr know when to start and i have never had...

    Shedding

No, you can move her in now. There’s usually at least 2-3 weeks if not longer from the end of the receptive period to when laying can occur. As you can see from my above pic, I use a deep lay bin with opaque sides. It measures about 12” square and deep, but I fill to only about 6” with play sand...

    Help with my first chameleon!

Hi and welcome! You’ve been getting some excellent advice so far. The coconut fiber is too loose for lay bins. You need something that will hold a tunnel without collapsing. Play sand is the same sand that we put in children’s sand boxes. It’s a natural sand that if she does accidentally eat it...

    Chameleon cage

You will need to make quite a few changes... Specifically UVB lighting should be a t5ho linear fixture and either a 5.0 or 6% bulb. Remove the substrate in the bottom this is an impaction and bacteria risk. You need many more branches or flukers vines hooked to the sides of the cage. With the...

    Hax's husbandry review (It's a girl!)

I wouldn’t put any soil down like that. It will turn into a muddy mess and probably be a bacterial soup. Dealing with drainage is always a challenge. Some keep a wet vac nearby for regular use. Some come up with the simplest to more involved drainage systems with pvc pipe, washing machine pans...

HELP - New Black spots when sleeping

That post was last year I believe. She never laid in January. She laid probably about 6 months ago. She definitely is due to lay I’m worried the change in the substrate and lay bin may have deterred her from laying. We’re taking her to the animal hospital right now

    Veiled chameleon enclosure help

Hi and welcome! :) You’ve been given fantastic input so far and I’m not sure that I need to add any more to it…but I will. 😂 I’m not all that experienced…I just have learned from the best. You’ll need to make some of the changes immediately to help ensure your little sweetie has no issues with...

NEED HELP! I think that my chameleon is egg bound?

She's been drinking and basking, and even looking more healthy (color, behavior, hydration) than the past few months, however she isn't eating much. She's been laying about 2-3 times a year since I got her, which was about 4 years ago, although I have never counted how many eggs. She is somewhat...

I’m a new chameleon owner with a female veiled and have a few questions that I’m struggling to find anywhere?

Well, I know. I keep my chams bioactive and they have the whole bottom to lay in. However, my girls had only laid in bins of sand before I made them bioactive. The one and only who’s laid eggs since was rejecting not only her bioactive substrate, but everything else including a short bin of...
