    Bioactive Enclosure Curiosity

Well I'm back again, haven't had much to post because I don't have a chameleon currently. However, I do have the bioactive enclosure still running. I'm curious what people here have used as cleanup crews for bioactive terrariums. My bioactive enclosure has dairy cow isopods, red wrigglers...

    Popularity of Reptiles

Well I'm back from a bit of a break. With finishing up my degrees here, I've been putting thought into what to do next. I still plan to pursue graduate studies, but I need a way to fund things. I'm uncertain of what my very next step is as I have had to overcome quite a few obstacles just to...

    Time to upgrade

Well even though Chandler has passed, I've kept the bioactive enclosure run Nik. I decided to add in some edible mushroom spawn and thus far have Shitake, Shaggy Mane and Lion's Mane growing. Also decided to repot the plants as they were becoming root bound and reorganize the enclosure slightly...

    Chameleon barf or poo

To answer the original question, that came out the front end in my opinion. Chandler had it happen to him and it was due to low temps and also late feeding.

    Fired Up Fridays

For me a past fixation I had because of ADHD I learned how to play around with advanced camera settings like exposure, white balance, shutter speed and such to get better looking photos. Occasionally I'll use software to adjust contrast, shadow intensity and whatever the opposite of the shadows is.

    Future is Looking Bright

While working full-time and attending school full-time. It's been a lot of work and factors outside of my control have also delayed it to a degree.

    Quick Question

I think this is where I can post this, long story short, both my bioactive enclosure and backup cleanup crew enclosure have large enough established populations that I can start to sell off excess. I also have managed to get some cuttings from a tropical pitcher plant to root. I was not...

    Future is Looking Bright

Hello everyone. I took a bit of a hiatus from the forums with my recent loss. Despite wanting to have another chameleon right now, it is not the time as I cannot give the level of care I would deem acceptable for a young chameleon. This is due to finally being in my last year of my two...

    Fired Up Fridays

Honestly, I'm still happy I made this thread, it does a good job of showing how chameleons communicate how they are feeling through altering their colours.

    Old age signs

Honestly the hardest part with this goodbye was how he was himself to the very end. The vet suggested feeding him hornworms and despite attempting to force feed him one, he spat it out immediately. If I offered a cricket, he would still nab it without issue. It is also comforting though because...

    Old age signs

He was at least stubborn right up until the end. Just faced with old age. Managed to grab one last good pic of him on the day I had to say goodbye.

    Old age signs

Well on Tuesday I had to make the hard decision to say goodbye to Chandler. I was facing old age and he had gotten to the point where he was no longer able to move under his own power and was starting to have laboured breathing. I chose to have him cremated and when I receive his ashes, a small...

    Old age signs

Well, I personally didn't get any sleep last night, he had a bowel movement yesterday and it didn't look like it was digested much at all. He is still eating, around 3 crickets a day, still able to shoot his tongue. He's showing signs of MBD such as muscle weakness and lethargy, but his...

    Old age signs

I'm pretty certain I'm dealing with the one thing I can't do anything about. He's not in pain but his time is drawing near. It explains why his bloodwork came back really good, he is healthy, but he is old and he is reaching the end of his life naturally. It's a first for my family to have an...

    Old age signs

He hasn't passed, but did have a bowel movement that wasn't really digested at all.

    Old age signs

So I'm not certain, but I think Chandler might be starting to pass, his colors have changed, he's not holding on to anything and despite not having pain, he's vibrating as I hold him. His breathing is also laboured.

    Old age signs

I do have one question, for those members that have acquired a chameleon from PetSmart, knowing the issues faced by this, what has been a PetSmart chameleon's lifespan. I knew prior to acquiring Chandler that the odds were against him living to be 5 years old because he came from PetSmart which...

    Old age signs

Honestly I'm not struggling with this because it seems my options are to be let him pass peacefully and naturally or euthanasia. Euthanasia would be slightly easier on myself, but I view it as cruel if he is passing away naturally without pain. I don't know his exact age, but based on the fact...

    Old age signs

Well I have to play it day by day. He's doing better in some ways worse in others. I know I'm facing old age so there's not much I can do. From what I've seen 5 years tends to be the average, but there are exceptions. Ironically I know a lot of people's memories gets fuzzy after five years as I...
