My first chameleon, a veiled, was names Ling-Ling after a livelavalive (youtube) video. Ling-Ling was Leon's "clubbing name" in the video
When I got my little panther I was working on an essay in which I used some references from Julian Huxley, the son of one of Darwin's...
This sounds like quite a big project when you could just spend $30-$40 to buy a brand new screen cage and put a plastic drawer underneath...
Good luck drilling tempered glass. And as far as tilting the glass while still having a floor that's sturdy enough to hold your plants, well that sounds...
It's hard to see exactly what is going on from the picture. My panther was having eye issues last week that looked somewhat similar, although not as bad. It came on very suddenly as well. It looked kind of like there was a film over his eyeball, and his eyeball looked a little sunken in the...
Hi Jared, welcome to the forum. It's a great place to find info. I hope it helps you as much as it's helped me!
As far as what chameleon would be a good one to start with, I would suggest a panther or veiled. The husbandry requirements are very similar between these two, so it's really...
I just got a pair of Jackson's (xanths) today. Up to this point, all of my chameleons have been male (aside from some female Brevs). I know that the feeding schedule is generally lighter for females, but I'd love if someone could tell me exactly how it should differ from the male's. The female...
I used a Powersun for my free range and it worked great, but I would not use it on my screen cages. On the free range, the cham could move far from the bulb if he needed to cool down, because they really are very hot. I also had a reptisun 5.0 on his free range so he could receive UVB in two...
Happy to announce that I've added a sweet pair of Jackson's to my little chameleon family! I got them from a member here on the forum, prarielandchameleon, and they're just excellent! They're both settling in after the long trip, but I'll post a couple pictures once they've had a day or two to...
That camera has a digital zoom, which is why it's blurry. You need something with an optical zoom, which is what you'll get on a dslr. They're not cheap, but there's no comparison when it comes to dslr and point & shoots. A macro lens is a must. Spend the money and you really won't regret it.
Thanks for the info jdog. As far as the free range being "escape proof"... well, it's as close as possible. I've made sure everything in the room is chameleon safe, just in case. Because you're right... the only thing that's 100% escape proof is a cage! I'll post a picture of it later.
I am...
I've made some major changes to my free range after loosing my veiled earlier this month. With the new set up, there are no places that a cham could leave the free range, but I've still moved the rat (who killed my veiled through the bars of his cage) to a different room. All of the plants are...
Congrats on the new pygmy :D I just got my first pygs this week, and they aren't quite entertaining little things! Is yours captive bred or wild caught? It will take him awhile to settle in, either way. Has it only been one day that you haven't seen him eat? They're very sneaky little...
Huxley's eyes were the worst this morning - and it was both of them. I showered him for about 20 minutes, which cleared him up almost completely, at least for about half an hour. I set him up with a humidifier later this afternoon, and he LOVES IT! It's an small ultrasonic (no hot or open areas)...
They are reptisuns, a old 2.0 and a newer 5.0. The back of the cage was still pretty dark, so I used an extra light l had from an old fish tank to brighten it up. Those bulbs are 2 T5s... I believe one is 10,000K and the other is actinic. Just something I had laying around from an old saltwater...
Oh wow... I didn't know that. Would you recommend keeping the reptivite and using it more often (2 or 3 times a week) or getting the other and sticking with the 2x a month schedule?
