Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male Trioceros jacksonii xantholophus. 4 months old. He's currently been in my care for 8 days.
Handling - I haven't handled him since the day I got him.
Feeding - I offer him food every day, switching between Dubias and crickets. He hasn't eaten in front...
I'm just curious-are there any studies or evidence out there that suggests chameleons are smarter than other reptiles? What I kinda figure is that their brains might have to be a bit more complex than at least some other lizards in order to process seeing two images at once, as well as switching...
I'm worried that Handsome Jack isn't as big as he should be. He's four months old and he looks a lot more baby-ish than this other chameleon I saw on a growth thread at an even younger age. Am I just concerned about something trivial and stupid? Probably. But I want to know if that means there...
I see a big problem. He seems to have what's called "cuteness." If too much of this "cuteness" builds up in his system, he'll blow up. But he's not in as much danger as Handsome Jack. ;)
I dumped some crickets in Handsome Jack's cage, and I wanna say he probably ate a few while I wasn't watching. He seemed to be pretty interested, but he wouldn't eat with me standing there. I think he has something against Dubias.
I'm afraid I can't provide him with a 24/7 free-range, but there's really no reason I can't provide a free-range for him to explore every now and again, as well as letting him out for some sunshine when the weather permits. And for the record he's about 4 months old. :D
Alrighty, I'll get ahold of a good hygrometer and keep the Calcium+D3 and multivitamins to twice a month, as well as gutloading and adding variety. Thanks for the input!

I'm just outlining how I'm caring for Handsome Jack so you all can point out anything that needs to change. Here goes:
Temperature gradient: Mid-70's ambient, 84 degree basking spot
Lights: Basking bulb and fluorescent UVB bulb
Cage size: 27 x 17 x 37" homemade cage
Furnishings and...
Would it be alright if I purchased a large indoor plant and let Handsome Jack free-range under my close supervision every now and again? He currently has a 27 x 17 x 37" cage that my dad and I built, with a fluorescent bulb for UV as well as a basking spot that's 84 degrees. I mist him several...
He wouldn't accept food yesterday. Should I wait another day or two before offering food again? How long would he have to "fast" before I need to worry?
I just got Handsome Jack yesterday, and for those of you that don't know, he's a 4-month old Jackson's chameleon. How long should I wait before I try feeding him for the first time?
He's seriously the cutest thing ever.. I had him hanging out on his Schefflera plant yesterday while I set up his cage, and I misted his plant and he was sitting there drinking like a little camel. He must have been thirsty from sitting at the reptile show! I turned on his lights and stuff this...
I know this is a really stupid question, and I'm prepared to catch some amount of crap for this, but what are the benefits of having a programmable mister when I can have a dripper and hand-mist several times a day? I was talking to my mom about ordering a Mistking starter system and she brought...
Ladies and germs, here are the first photos of Handsome Jack, my baby Jackson's chameleon! I'm kinda thinking I'm gonna upload all of his pictures into this thread so we can see him grow up! He's so cute with his nubby little baby horns and stuff. :D
We'll be ordering a Mistking starter system tomorrow! I can't wait to get Handsome Jack-I've already got his cage and plant and basking lamp! We still need Handsome Jack, a UV light and the mister.
