I noticed that Manzanita is on the safe plant list, and there's a lot of wedding supply stores that sell this stuff for center pieces. I also noticed that they are cheaper than grape wood.
I want to use free branches from nature, but if they don't work, or I find Mr.Pink trying to eat...
Lights, of any colour, will likely disturb your chameleons sleep, and thus metabolism. If your room temperature dips below 50 degrees at night, a better option would be to run a space heater in the room, or purchase a ceramic heat emitter bulb that only gives off heat - no light. :)
I had the same problem - mostly because I was using natural spring water, and not distilled or RO. I use distilled now, and haven't had the problem since.
Just using water to wash the residue off is not enough - you need a mild soap. Rinse well after, or you'll have soap deposits too, and...
Welcome to the forums mantra! You'll find this place to be an awesome source of information, with lot's of friendly and knowledgable people. :)
Taking hercules out of his cage for showers might stress him out, especially since he's not used to you yet, even though they are really good for...
When my husband an I bought our first cage, we wanted, but couldn't find a laundry sink. They're not very appealing, but they're the perfect square size, and provide a perfect drainage system.
You might be able to go to a used building material store - like Habitat for Humanity stores, to...
Oh, there will be foliage! :p
This rockwall will be more for an aesthetic background than anything. But I will install some "ledges" that will actually be pockets for small planters to go into (for more foliage). Here's a picture of what his cage looks like now:
Now that we know...
As long as he's still getting around in the cage alright, and he's only doing that when he's basking, I wouldn't worry about it at all. My veiled does that all the time when he's basking. Sometimes he even does it on my hand when I bring him outside for some real-sun basking.
Wow they make lot's of cool stuff! Unfortunately, with shipping and everything, I think it's a bit too pricey. I was looking at that pink foam, it's a bit more expensive per sheet, but I'll definitely go with that if I have a hard time with the styrofoam. I have a few pieces of foam lying...
Does she ever strike at the prey and miss? I'm not a vet, but check to see if the supplements you were giving have Vit A in them. If not, it COULD be a vitamin A deficiency which is really easy to fix. Try adding more carrots to the cricket gutload. To cure Mr.Pink of his Vit A deficiency...
In that picture you can see the yellow bars starting to appear on his side. As he ages and sheds those colours will become far more prevalent. But yeah, all baby veileds look like that, so no need to worry.
If he gets scared or really peeved, he'll get dark black spots all over him. You...
Do you have any pictures of your enclosure we could see?
It could make him feel more safe and comfortable, even with you around, if he's got lots of places he can hide in. Try adding more foliage and more branches for him to get around on.
The colour of the clothing I wear has a big...
Nice! I can't wait to get a second chameleon... maybe a 3rd. We've been considering getting Mr.Pink a girlfriend eventually, and the cage I'm building now could easily be divided down the middle with a simple sheet of plastic (fluorescent ceiling light cover). Also looking at panthers...
Making a new, massive, cage for Mr.Pink. This time we're doing it right, and not only will it be perfect for Mr.Pink, it will be beautiful to look at (all wires hidden, 3d rockwall background, all live plants, etc.)
In saying that, I need to make / buy a feeder cup that will work well, but...
I've heard that it's a bad idea to use soil or loose substrate of any kind in a chameleon cage, as they may accidentally ingest it and possibly cause impaction. It's gotta get a little stinky too no?
I've heard nothing but good things about this system, and since my husband and I are going all out making Mr.Pink a new cage, we thought we would spare no expense trying to get him a nice mister. Right now we're using a Reptirain system, which is cheap, and barely does the job.
We like...
