give it time, keep offering....
its not abnormal for chameleons to not eat during the first few days.
the fact that he did eat, a good sign. dont worry about taking the feeders out. i free range feeders myself. just make sure that they have food in the enclosure, so they do not eat the chameleon.

personally, i wouldn't worry about regulating the size of the enclosure. earth is the biggest enclosure.... its my opinion.... take it with a grain of salt...

I would start by removing the substrate. chameleons are arboreal and dont really need it, in fact.. it can and does cause issues with impaction.
