im not the smartest when it comes to this, but i do kno that a plastic cover will block some if not most of the rays. you should post a picture of your lighting fixture to clarify, and others will be able to give you a better answer. Thanks!

I use something similar to this for my bearded dragon, it helps with his shedding and he really enjoys, you'd think he would run away but he just closes his eyes and takes it. But like others have said i wouldnt use this on a chameleon.
