Finally got the tank all finished. :) That is, except for adding the isopods and spring tails. Will do that tomorrow. Let me know what you think! Constructive criticism is welcome! These are my first chams so let me know what is on your mind. :D
Also, the lid I made from scratch. I like...
Thanks!
I using a Cannon Rebel XL (digital). The shots were taken with just a 55mm lens. The close up of the smaller female is at almost full zoom while the tongue shots are at 47mm I believe.
I want a 100mm macro sooooo bad. :( I've been taking pics of insects for years and a...
Thanks everybody. :)
It's not that hard really. Even though having a SLR camera helps a lot, knowing how to set a camera up for split second shots isn't too difficult. You just need to have a quick "trigger finger". :D Took me about an hour and 7-8 attempts to finally get the "full range"...
Thanks! I plan on taking my little guys to the museum that I work at this week. Taking pics in their butterfly house will produce very naturalistic photos. :D
My favorite part about the big tongue shot is seeing the roach barely clinging onto the blanket. So funny. :D:D
I've now had these guys for about half a week and they are acclimating very well. :D The male and smaller female are fully adjusted to their new home. The bigger female isn't quite there yet though. ;)
Anyways, a few pics I took today,
smaller female showing her stripes finally :)...
Too bad, but I can understand. :) The Empusidae have always been my favorites, especially Epmusa pennata. Boy do I miss breeding them...can't find them anymore. :(
She does have a place to lay if she is gravid. :) I do like the look of planted vivs a lot, so that's what I'm working on. The tank is ready but I just have silk vines in there ATM. It will be finished next week though; I'll post pics then. :D
The middle one does have the "beard". Just...
lol She is a bit grumpy also. Even right out of the box (when she could barely move because of the cold) she puffed all up. A few hours later and she would still open up her mouth and get all big and flat. :D The others have good nature, not her. lol
Thanks! After all the responses, I...
Thanks for the info. I was concerned, esp. after how poorly they were packed. I also thought the bigger one had a pretty long tail. The smallest one is at least half the size of the biggest one. I will add that the biggest one is much bigger than the adult female that to local museum has...
Just got a trio in today. Not too happy with the seller though. Here in NC the temperature fell well below freezing last night but he sent NO heat pack and used newspaper and "some" foam peanuts instead of foam panels. The poor things were soooo cold and lethargic when I got them (as a matter...
You could try the sticky strips of paper to catch the adults (not the long rolls) and put it in an area that your cham can't reach. You don't want to use lady bugs, they would be bad for the cham. ;)
Hey guys,
Yesterday we (Eastern US) had a full lunar eclipse that occurred on the winter solstice. I was crazy enough to stay up to 4 AM to photograph it. :D I only managed 4 good photos since I had to fight the clouds all night. Sadly photobucket really degrades the photos; the...
Hey all,
Although I've hardly posted here, I've been a lurker for quite some time. I've been breeding exotic insects for 10 years or so, and am finally moving to chams. (specifically, pygmy chams) :) Since I don't have any feedback here, check ebay for the user name drew44052, you will see...
