Additional Lighting for a Florida Lanai?

I'd say it depends. If your lanai gets sunlight all throughout the day then I'd say no. But if your building faces away from the sun and only receives sunlight for 1 hour a day then you may want to add a light if your cham is going to be on his free range for a while.

    Chameleon Paradise

This is the most updated picture I have of Renley, a son of Kandiroo.

Cham's resting both hindlegs with an eye closed.

I came home today to find Ren in the most awkward position I've seen him in since I've had him. I've attached a picture below. He's been closing his left eye at around 6pm, an hour before his usual bed time. And because he was closing his eye I decided to do a cage cleaning and removed a plant...

    Big ol house

In my opinion from information I've come across is that you'd rather have the cage be wider than taller because you can just easily add a stand to give height to the cage.. such as a 4x2x2 cage on top of a stand.

    Having Problems... Getting Very Upset!

There are some things wrong with your husbandry. Your supplementation should include three specific dusts: a calcium with d3, a calcium without d3 and a reptile vitamin. You should be using the calcium without d3 at every feeding and only use the d3 and herptivite 2x a month. Also the spike at...

    Spiders...infestation

So I've got a spider infestation going on outside on my free range. I thought they were spider mites but they are visible by the naked eye... I'm not sure what they are but I tried checking for mites by holding a piece of paper under the tree and shaking a branch. So I did that and out fell a...

    Swollen limbs

Thanks for replying Carol, I too thought it was either gout or edema in his legs. But it has definitely not been permanent. I've wanted to take him to the vet but I've always been slow to pull the trigger.

    Swollen limbs

About a week ago Rens back left hind leg was swollen but it ended up going back to normal somewhat quickly..and now today I noticed his back right leg looked swollen. I have pictures of both times his legs were swollen. Also I've learned from his behavior that he will close his eyes when he...

    Home made rain done

Great news if he's drinking from the dome, but like you said it does decrease humidity in the cage drastically. So I make sure I hand mist my cage 2-3 times a day to keep the humidity up. If you can, just buy another mistking nozzle and the attachment to be able to run two hoses off the mistking...

    heat lamp useless?

You're light setup is fine as well, for a T5 fixture you can buy a 6% arcadia that are perfect for 48" caegs..if you're worried about the vegetation just add a grow light to the dual fixture. And you will need a heat lamp like others have said.

    Chameleon Hiding From Water Mist

I agree with Julia, they are also easy to make DIY. I made mine using the mistking nozzle attached to the bottom of a plastic tuperware flipped over and attach it to the top of the cage. You just have to have a good place to place it over, so I have it ontop of a hanging pothos. Also I'd like...

Finally, a cham who knows his way home!!

My panther does this but I have still not found out what makes him do it. My free range is on my lanai but there's no lights or really a source of water out there but he's got the FL sun. I'll put Ren out there for 30minutes-2hours depending on how he feels. Sometimes after 10 minutes he'll...

    Cham behavior

Sounds normal to me, I have a panther that free ranges and when he feels like he's done he'll climb down off the free range and climb around on the floor and get into some mischief.

Been with me for a year! Renley!

Thanks guys! You really need to take pictures often because in person I always thought his colors didn't change much but now going through all the pictures I have its great to see the progression.
