Good job on rescuing him, he was in very bad shape, looks healthy now. I can't tell you what to do with the hemipenis as I've never experienced this first hand, but I would wait until he is at full health to preform surgery. See what your vet thinks

You get used to it. I just purchased 1000 online and the box had an opening on the top and was brought into the house without being noticed. About five hours later I get home from work to see crickets crawling out. Less than half of the crickets were left in the box. Lol.
