I know this is probably going against the grain here, but I've always fed my chams larger prey than the between the eyes rule. I fed my last veiled supers at 4 months. Theres no one to regulate them in the wild. I've never had one come close to choking.
Does he still have his strength? I had one that had it almost that bad and he pulled through after 6 trips to the vet and $450. That's usually not the case though. Hope yours pulls through. Keep us updated. Are you forcefeeding?
Good luck Mohamed and keep us informed. If he has pooped or when he does, see if there is any white substance attached to the poop. If it's white it means he is getting some water. David
Beauties!! I didn't take her long to darken up. I have been flip flopping back and forth between these and rudis for my next chams. Do you have any ideas on the subject? I only have one montane species at the moment. Most of my experience has been with veiled and panthers and rudis several years...
How far are you from the wild veileds in FL? I think their in the ft. meyers area. The ones I've seen online, like on lost lake chameleons are stunning and HUGE. Looks like they could rip an arm off if you got to close to them.
Very sorry to hear the news Chris. I was kind of hoping no news was good news. If you ever get some spare time could you give us a little information on what you know about it. How common it is in the wild, it's natural habitat, etc. Thanks for the update. David
One of my veiled males will almost hurt himself coming out of the tree tops when he sees them. Doesn't look where he's going...one track mind...get the wax worm. It's funny how they have their favorites. David
main thing to worry about is parasites. The fence lizard likely has them and you can pass them on to your cham. I used to feed my veiled's newly born gecko's that are on our front porch. My chams started coming up positive on their fecals. I stopped feeding them to my chams about 4 months ago...
Just put the bucket with slightly moist sand in the cage with her and a branch going into it that she can use. If you've had her for six months then they are most likely not fertile. Veileds can retain sperm from a previous mating but if you've had her for six months and she's only a year old...
Your smallest one sounds perfect. If it were mine, I'd just move them from the smallest to the largest at about 4-5 months. I've never had a problem with them finding food and I free range all my feeders. Good luck. David
Get her a sandbox quick!! Chameleons can hold their eggs and become eggbound and die. You need to save and incubate the eggs as they may be fertile. How long have you had her?
Both of those already mentioned are good suppliers of healthy chams as is chameleonsonly.com. LLLreptile always has chams though I personally wouldn't buy from them as they are really just middlemen in the business. I like to buy mine directly from the breeders. Firstchoicereptiles is an awsome...
You should probably start with a male veiled or a panther. Both of these can be aggressive though, especially the veiled. My experiance with veileds has been that they are really only aggressive when their in the cage. Once out they are fine and stop all their hissing and bluffing. Both of these...
