    The Inbreeding of Dubia Roaches

Wow, Brad and Eric, thanks for all the valuable info. That gives me the peace of mind knowing that I won't have to restock my whole colony after a few years. Thanks.

    The Inbreeding of Dubia Roaches

I just got a new colony of Dubia roaches recently. I've been hearing articles here and there about the inbreeding of colony to where they develop issues with their genetics. Inbreeding of any species is an issue, even with insects. You hear of religious communities that practice inbreeding...

Dubia roach breeding not going so well :S

No heat? No breed. Instead of a clear container use a matted dark container. They hate the light and are shy. No ventilation? Use more protein as opposed to veggies. Don't feed off your nymphs! Are you crazy? Feed off your surplus of males, but keep a ratio of 1:3. Seems like you're...

    Bait Store Crickets ??

I wouldn't do that. They might put them in "non idea" setups made more for mass production for wild game consumption. At petstores at least them have guidelines to insure Healthier crickets. They might also feed them hormones to have them multiply faster. Nobody cares about wild game items...

    Dubia food

I would not exclusively limit them to fruits and veggies. They love their protein. If you deprive them of this, they will supplement their cravings on the larvae of the young and you don't want that if you want to increase the populace of our community.

    Crickets dying?

There's a really good article floating around somewhere from someone who had the same problem you did. This person put vents on the bottom sides and his cricket mortality was less than %5 a week. Ventilation is the one biggest thing you can do to prevent cricket deaths. So, vent on the bottom...

    Crickets dying?

A really effective way to keeping crickets is to have really good ventilation, but the ventilation needs to be at the bottom. That smell, is mostly ammonia and other lethal chemicals that crickets are sensitive to. When a batch of them starts to die, you will get a lot more. You need to keep...

    Sunken eyes?

Hey I know this is an old thread, but just wanted to let you know that you shouldn't position your lights like that. Always have them on top of the cage shining down. By having them on the sides like that it's always hitting your chams line of vision. It will destroy his vision. You don't...

Gizzy on tank floor and displaying dark colours

People like to drop the MBD here a lot even though they don't know what the diagnoses is. Drop in a pot of soil, see if she lays some infertile eggs. Some just drop dud clutches even if they haven't been with a male.

    Does this look ok?

Which one? His swollen foot? That chunk missing from his crest? Or his super depressed demeanor? Ok, just kidding, i think he looks fine. Go take more pics of him.

    Mercury

Mercury good? D3 Poison? Tubelights will kill? You should totally listen to this guy. But do the exact opposite of what he says. He's 180 degrees correct (in the other direction).

    Much Profit In Breeding?

Everyone here seems to agree that you should just sit on your hands and be patient. I feel it's like you just got yourself your first girlfriend, and now you're looking to upgrade her for a super model. Stay in your league and what you can handle. Then when you're ready, then you can explore...

    Tokay Gecko Vs. Chams?

Tokays are the biggest a-holes of all reptiles. You feed them, they bite you. You pamper them and give them a nice basking light and they hiss at you. You pick up their s**t and they charge at you. If i had a son who did that, he would be out the door collecting unemployment, sleeping at...

    Crickets!@!@! :)

Hey man haven't you heard? It's all about roaches, who's doing crickets these days? That's what i'm asking. Where did you come from, the past? Seriously, but 100 Dubia roaches and you'll never post a thread like this again. Instead, you'll PM me and thank me for the good advice.

    Much Profit In Breeding?

I don't think there's much of a market for veileds. I guess they're like widgets, you might try to sell them in quantity hoping it adds up. But a lot of people here invest in a nice pair of panthers with good coloration/structure. It's easier to take your time, so you don't have to pump out...

    Rare Maroantsetra

Yeah... bargains don't just come out of nowhere. There's a reason for it. I live in NYC, I have yet to buy a $20 Rolex watch. The cham might be older than what you think. In any case he might be in your door soon, but he might be "out the door" soon. No offense to the seller, that's just my...

    Before and After with MBD

Just because the chameleon is skinny doesn't mean it has MBD (metabolic bone disease), it could have just been under fed and that was why it was so gaunt, malnourished, dehydrated. A lot of people point the finger at MBD more than anything else. Sometimes it's true, a lot of times there's...

    How long do they live?

Yeah, that's kind of sad that a dubia roach almost lives as long as a female panther. I see a lot of people dumping their breeders off at around the 5 age mark to collect some money before it goes, a lot of people here.
