A small hot water boiler with radiant heat floors would provide the cheapest and most uniform heat, it also wouldn't dry the room/building out. I install them, they are the most efficient way to heat a house, but a costly initial investment.

Just out of curiosity, at what point do you say you have a mite problem? I can see very fine white mites on the eggcrates in my dubia colony, but only a few, like one per egg "holster," maybe a bit more, but certainly not overrunning the colony as far as I can tell.
Thanks,
Leland
Well to start off, it's not smart to allow a veiled to become gravid when she's under a year old, it can kill them very easily due to not being fully mature. BUT since there's no changing that point, all you can do is provide the best enviroment and nutrition to the female. The typical gestation...
Ok, thanks for the advice. The pedialyte seems to really improving his overall health/mood. He's definately more active. I think he's been getting very dehydrated, based on his apperarance, but his urates are white, with no orange, and he passes a large amount of mucus with his feces. His skin...
You can go to any pet store and get an adjustable cone made to fit dog's to prevent them from licking wounds, and it will fit most plants. I mixed a 1:3 ratio of perlite to potting soil, and placed a layer of gravel in the bottom of the pot to retain the soil. I remove the drip pan from the pot...
I have a generator I can run my whole house off of. Investing in a generator is a must with aquariums and chameleons. You could go pick one up to run space heaters and anything else through extension cords. Mine plugs into an outside outlet and runs through my circuit breaker panel. I shut the...
Argh, his infection has come back. He's starting to shut one eye again, and I can hear him wheeze occasionally. He's mildly dehydrated as well, so I've been giving him 2ml of Pedialyte 3 times a day orally. He will bask under the misters, and put his head up as if he's enjoying it, but I don't...
Had to chime in. Its a very bad idea to wrap water lines around your light. They will melt when the water isn't moving, and if they didn't, they would just cool down as soon as the water started moving. It takes much more heat than any lamp used for reptiles can produce to heat moving water. Im...
That could be an infection or something stuck in her eye turret, like shed skin. Try flushing it with eye wash several times a day. You have to aim the jet right in the turret, and fill it up with the eye wash. If it doesn't fill up its not doing any good. Take her to a vet as well, better safe...
I worked for a chameleon breeder when I was in high school, and all he used was bird cages, mostly hanging cages. They can work great, however I don't think even the largest commonly sold bird cage would be big enough to keep a parsonii or melleri content. The ones I see for parrots are 6x3x4...
Well apparently he's feeling really good, because I just walked in and caught him trying to mount my other melleri, who wasn't very thrilled about it. Lol So I'm assuming now that I might definitely have a male and a female.
Wow, hats off to you for saving such a great chameleon. The tail might even be ok after a year or two. It still looks like its healing in the deepest wound, it might hurt her still to move it.
My recent melleri wouldnt eat initially, but it would gape and hiss at me, so I would crush the head...
Well the melleri is doing much better. Still very aggressive, and stays dark most of the day, but hes very active, and eats well. He has 2 more days left of the Baytril. I've was surprised to see him, literally run to the center of the free range when the misters go off. He now almost has the...
Based on the pictures, she doesn't look egg bound, but I would give her 24hr access to a laying bin. For my veiled I use a medium Rubbermaid container filled with damp play sand, placed in the bottom of her cage. If she starts to dig, leave her alone until she climbs out. Don't leave the lights...
She is 100% gravid. Her coloration and size suggests it, but you can see the eggs back around her hips to confirm it. Dust her feeders everyday with calcium with no d3, and make sure she is very hydrated everyday. The eggs are more than likely infertile based on the cham's previous owners care...
Hey,
Since I'm new to this forum, it may have already been discussed, but where did Kristina Francis go? Looked like she was very active until 2009, then no more updates to the MD site, and no posts on here. I've never met her but I know her site inside & out. I hope she's writing a book...
The mist king can run 10 nozzles per pump. I've never ran more than two off of mine, but they do spray a nice fine mist. I have the pro nozzles. You can also get clear line & 1/4" white fittings at lowes. The clear line may grow algae in it if exposed to light though.
