I am sorry the baby didn't make it. it is actually quite common for that to happen for some reason. I used to breed them, well try at least. I worked with them for 2 years before giving up. i could not figure out why, but at 6 weeks old the babies would simply be dead for some reason...

I read 6-8 weeks for eggs to hatch.

So I am learning that they are a communal nester, so far 2 of them have laid eggs in the same spot :)

Is too late for this, but with Corns, Kings and Milks never buy one that the vendor can't prove out as having already eaten. Many babies of these species never start eating for some reason.

Try seeing if there are any for sale on AquaBid. There is a guy who sells the giant water beetles there, you could get lucky and see some for sale.
