Looks like a nice setup and a beautiful girl you have there. I read a great article on the lights in the online chameleon magazine. It said the main issue with the CFL is you need to keep it further from the enclosure as the concentration of UVB is greater coming from it due to the design. So if...
So, I finally was allotted some time time to keep working on my new enclosure. Here is the structure of it. It is 48" tall 36" wide and 24" deep. I am going to screen the doors and attach them tonight. I need to trim the plastic I bought for the bottom and it wit the drain installed will fit...
Note that is a panther walking right out to perch on you. I dont see too many (if any) videos of veileds doing that. I love my little guy. He is about 10 months old and has an attitude. I will keep working with him, but I know it is going to be hard to get a veiled to be as accepting as a...
If you do any reading on veiled chameleons you will find they are the most agressive of the chameleons. That is not to say they are mean, but they are agressive. Most people on the forums with male veileds have some story about hissing and bitting at them. It seems to be the norm.
I find...
If you are serious about raising him I would do some reading in the enclosures forum for the right setup to keep your little guy healthy. The setup you have is not going to be very good for him at all. I know the pet store pushes those on people who buy baby veiled as they did it to me too...
Sorta wish I would have build an enclosure like this instead of the screen one I am building. Would have been 100 times easier. Oh well, back to work on my enclosure.
Everything I read says veiled are the most aggressive of the chameleons. While some are more docile than others on the whole they are more aggressive than others. All chameleons are categorizes as show lizards and not for handling. Many, as you work with them, might warm up to the idea of being...
I just started feeding fruit to my veiled last week. Cut up grapes and offered them with some long tweezers. I had to rub it on his nose a bit and when he got mad and hissed, pop, into his mouth it went. Once he started chewing he was fine. Silly guy has to get all mad at. Me to get his treats.
I picked up a tub drain at home depot. Cut a hole in the bottom of my floor. Sealed the drain with screening to. Keep anything but water from entering it and hooked some 1" PVC pipe to it. The drain runs off to a bucket.
As for how to get the water to run to the drain...
I used a piece of...
There are about 100 people on these forums that wish they had the issue you do. So many of us with Veileds are discussing how to get our little guys to come and crawl on us. You are trying to figure out how to stop it. So crazy how different the Panther and Veiled behave.
I am glad to...
Mine is not this exact one, but here is one at Home Depot for $25

Ditto on the units from Home Depot. I have one in the enclosure at the bottom to get temp and humidity and one outside on the top to tell room temp. Then I have a digital thermometer keeping tabs on the basking spot.
Wow, I feel much better reading this thread. My veiled is a pistol as well. I wear over mitts to reach in and get him because he does hiss and bite. I did notice since I have to take him out multiple times a day to treat his tail, he is getting better. I can usually just nudge him in a direction...
I made a misting/rain system for about that price.
Items needed (all found at Home Depot)
1. Pond pump - get one that has enough pressure to really move the water
2. 5 gallon bucket
3. Misting heads - I bought the ones on the curly tubes
4. Splitter - allows you to run more than one mister...
