I did reread and feel the same. Lots of pre assumption. Though they acknowledge improper husbandry they blame it on the fog, not the combination.
They sputter technical terms but if you pull the pertinent parts out all we have is that many respiratory problems involve poor husbandry and many...
They can be clean enough, it just needs to be part of the original plan. For tubes I use clear riser tube and PVC joints so it slips right apart.
But I also don’t think we always need a Fogger and sometimes it is the wrong choice. I would not use it with a glass enclosure or if I could...
I think first we need to define “Fogging”. I believe it is often misunderstood. It is not filling a space with physical fog. I think many see it as more is better and this is wrong. It is about achieving technical fog. This means you may not see it or need a device. If the night drop and...
So I believe it is 18x18x36 inches. Yes on the small side, but can be acceptable. Especially for a Jackson’s. There are other keepers using that size. Bigger is better but sometimes we are limited. A free range tree next to the enclosure can give extra climbing when you are able to watch...
So I don’t really blame vets. Very little is taught about exotics. I don’t know why it is said they absorb water. I don’t know of any reptiles that do. Now amphibians, that is different. Either way this information has to be actively researched it is not part of the training. So it is often...
I am sorry. But this is untrue. Please don’t soak your chameleon. They are dry shedders. They can not absorb through skin or vent. If hydration is a concern just increased the length of time you mist. Best is when you can get nights below 65f with 100% humidity. This is how they stay hydrated...
For a calming thought, branch hugging in babies can also just be from fear/stress. I have seen it. Like I am gonna hide right here.
as always keep an eye on. But it doesn’t have to be something permanent or dangerous
My bet is on a coming shed. I have seen the look.
Yes a bit dark and daytime humidity could be lower, but Michigan in the summer so sounds about right.
Keep an eye but probably OK. 84 is on the high end 80-82 is plenty. They do prefer ambient in the low 70s. So if things are a bit hot and...
If you aren’t shipping and can physically go see them and how they are raised. I would, assuming things look good when you get there. Yes it is young but somebody has to raise it. You seem to have some knowledge and experience so there’s no reason it can’t be you. Yes that young is a bigger...
I agree with @Highway61 in that dark colors mean something. It is important to get to the cause. I this case we can identify cause, but we also know stress can lead to other issues so we watch closely.
I do think you will be fine. You are in the right place and we will help
So I am not a panther specialist, but everything is looking good. If it has only been 4 days I would not be too concerned. He is likely scared and stressed from travel. I imagine it can get rough, that with the heat wave makes for an unhappy cham.
Once you get the mister set up give longer...
Here is the how to ask for help. https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/how-to-ask-for-help.66/
Don't panic all mine are dark from the heat wave. They don't like it at all. Fill out the form and we will help. You are not failing if you are asking for help. You are learning.
Right off I want to differentiate.
Open Enclosure = cage with no physical walls, but the animal is confined to that area.
Free Range = I let my guy go where he wants, like a puppy. Also = BAD.
Well my open enclosure has not been as good at restraining. He can get to my desk and will come and...
oh only like 60 to 70 a day, I mean till he grows a bit any way then a few more. LOL I get the fruit flies too. Believe me I have wished there was a way to scoop up all those little suckers. Of course when you see how many they eat vs what you see in your kitchen you will be thankful you don't...
So the blood would likely give the answer , I see his point though, in not wanting to do more harm.. A vet is not going to guess. Given all factors I would say this seems more unlikely to be supplements. I hope they can figure it out. Even in people this is a tricky area.
DO IT lol seriously though. It is great if they always have a few random insects to pick off. Even my adults eat fruit flies. I mean not as a staple or any thing just when the land in range.
Interesting, have you always used the same supplement? Is that every day or 3 times a week ?
I have a theory that over time their needs change. I have seen a few cases like your where every thing is good for a long time then all of a sudden symptoms appear. No science here Just a thought I...
This is just an odd one, but I have noticed when I am using supplaments to dust, I treat it like some highly volatile substance that could blow up. LOL I think it comes from my constant concern of not too much and not too little.
Does any one else do this? I don't do it consciously but family...
