So I have been noticing a ton of posts lately where members' Chameleons seem to have Respiratory Infections (RI). Many members have pointed out symptoms too.
But one thing i am curious about is -- are there any things (like best practices etc.) in particular one can do to avoid RI? Or is RI...
Thanks for the input. I was planning to switch out the bulb at its 6 month mark. So i think i will work with the 5.0 for the time being. And jan/feb i will switch to a 10.0 and see how things go.
Thanks again to everyone for their help
I found the same thing. The dry powder got them more interested than the wet/gelatin/cooked version.
I now feed bugs the dry powder mixed with things like raw sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and chopped carrots. I also chop up leafy veggies like arugula, kale, dandelion leaves, collard and...
Thanks! I acutally bought a few exxo terra and flukers vines from the store, folded them in half and twisted them. Kinda like pig tails. They look kinda cool that way, and since they are now double the original thickness, they can bear more eight
Nope, no substrate, i have a LLL reptile...
Lole CricketKilla mentioned plastic shower curtains will keep splashes inside. As far as misting system goes, DIY might seem like a good idea but personally i'd recommend going with Mistking or Aquazamp. Both are around $100 bucks but they are great products and last a long time. Going that...
The basking spot temp is around 83 deg and the ambient is around 75 deg. I do have a ton of perches in there the basking spot itself has 3 levels
But he still gravitates under the UVB.
Seems like from whatevery one says, its normal to hang upside down. Never seen that before so kinda...
This is the reason i bought up my initial question. Here is a picture of him hanging from the top of the screen right under the UVB light.
Found him doing it this afternoon when i got home. Never seem him do it before.
I had a question about UVB Light Bulbs. As recommended on the forum, I currently use a Reptisun 5.0 for my Jackson's Chameleon (Xanth). Its on top of a 18x18x36 screen cage.
However I have noticed that pretty often he will climb up a branch and sit himself as close to the UVB as possible, and...
Also, Avoid Gel Cubes. I think i read someone mention that the cubes can expand after ingestion and can cause problems in Chameleon.
I just end using a shallow tray of water that i change out every couple days. Havent seen any crickets drown in it.
I use it too (along with some other veggies/fruits). Its a good product. Crickets and dubias love it.
One thing i did realize that when i 'cooked' it according to instructions, to make the wet paste, the bugs would go for it as much. but now that i feed it directly in powdered form they...
I think i read an article in this months Tropical Fish Hobbyist issuse of Jack Wattley, the famous Discus Breeder, mixing a little bit of garlic puree with fish food for wild caught and other sick Discus fish.
The article mentions which diseases/parasites it cures but cant remember if the top...
Weatherstrip might do the trick for you and help you fill the gap. My only concern would be about it getting wet during misting an losing its effectiveness
I faced a similar problem with a sizable gap on my lllreptile screen cage. Was afraid of crickets and other feeders getting out.
I opted...
Here is what someone on the forum advised me - flip 'em on their back. The wriggling entices a feeding behavior.
It does work but it takes a lot of effort to flip every dubia. Also sometimes after all that work they flip themselves the right way up before the chameleon knows they are there.
I...
Thanks for the heads up Xanthoman. Appreciate it. Will work on the point you provided.
Diet - So other than Crickets, Dubias, and Silkworms, what else does everyone recommend? I know hornworms are supposedly good but having a hard time finding them online.
For multivitamin, here's what i...
I did look closely (thought it was maybe mouth rot) but it doesn't seem to be swollen from either side. Also kept an eye out see if his gums were turning brown. (when he was shooting for circkets), and couldn't pick up on any brown gums.
But will look closer tomorrow.
will try to take...
I can certainly try. Gotta find a good camera from somewhere. Right now, i just used my iphone. Had to keep flash off because he was looking right at me and i didn't want to scare him.
I am noticing some discoloration on the tip of my Jackson's Lip. Here's my help form...
