Just shy of two years old
Time for an update for those interested. Someone had made mention that it would be neat to see the growth of my little guy all in one thread and I agree so here's the latest pictures of Pete. He was just heading into a shed.
On another note, he's been paired up...
Hi everyone,
I am a small home and hobby breeder of Ambilobe Panther chameleons. I have two small clutches of Red/Blue Bars expected to hatch in the near future and I'm placing names on a waiting list for anyone interested.
Based out of Winnipeg, MB so preference will be given to local...
Hey, we spoke via email the other day. You may have some trouble finding anyone in our area as there are not many breeders, first of all. Second, the female is the one who takes all the work to care for and then babies after that!
Why do you want to breed him?
I have a one year old, captive bred, female Jackson's available for sale in Winnipeg, MB. $275 for her OR $375 for her with her current enclosure and plants (lights not included).
Only looking to sell locally - all care and history information will be shared with interested party.
Please...
I would agree with the hand feeding being the best option to show that you are not a threat and have him associate you with food - which is a positive thing.
I have a female Jackson's who was incredibly skittish for months after I got her. About 5 months to be exact. She wasn't aggressive...
17 months
Pete is 17 months and is almost completely mature - I thought I would add an updated picture to this post so you can all see how he has progressed through his growth.
Thanks for everyone who has shared the exciting experience of watching him grow!
I will provide you with an example from my breeding experience.
I paired my male and female and one month later she successfully laid a clutch. Almost exactly 2 months later, from the same pairing, she laid an even larger clutch of fertile eggs successfully.
It's a matter of finding what's bugging him and correcting it. Sometimes, they just need time to adjust to a new environment. With my experiences, darker colouration consistently will indicate that temps. need to be adjusted. Either they are too cool or too hot - your little guy is upset at...
That's not surprising at all to me actually. After my female laid, I could have sworn she had more in there. She still looked plump. It took about 2 days but suddenly she was her thin self again.
I wonder if it takes their bodies a bit of time to return to normal after laying...I would...
Keep her temps just a little lower and feed her less than you have been.
For my panther female, I feed her every 2-3 days, about 10 crickets per feeding. I also keep her basking temps in the mid 80's as opposed to high 80's for my male. This resulted in a clutch of 19 fertile eggs for me...
I know with my Jackson's when I took her to the Vet, she turned almost pitch black like that because it was so cold in the Vet's office. So that low temp. may be contributing to that at night.
During the day, it's harder to say without a more detailed account of your enclosure.
I agree that you are not utilizing the space available in your enclosure. My chams only use about the upper 1/3 of their enclosures. They prefer to be up high. String vines and foliage across the cage and different heights and angles to better use the space you have open there.
Welcome...
When I administer oral medication, the quickest, and imo, easiest way is to grab them in hand from the back and using your thumb and pointer finger, pin the sides of their head (behind the eyes). Use a firm grip as they will struggle. This will secure them in your hand so they cannot get hurt...
Thanks Jann. I think she was still looking plump because the little piggy stuffed herself with crickets. She looks her normal self again. Now I know to keep an eye out for signs of a second clutch.
You don't want that bulb. Use the dome for his basking spot - and just throw a cheap bulb in there of the wattage that you need to get the desired temperature. For my Panther, I use a 100watt bulb. For my Jackson's, I use a 40watt bulb. However, for the UVB/UVA, you will require a dedicated...
Thanks! She seems to be doing well. Looks healthy, hydrated and ate the few crickets that were in her cage untouched for the past few days. I tossed more in pretty heavily dusted with calcium for her and she ate most of those. However, she looks thinner but not her normal thin. I'm thinking...
I recommend the following:
1) Buying directly from a reputable breeder locally who specializes in chameleons.
2) Ordering online from a reputable chameleon breeder who specializes in chameleons and has experience successfully shipping animals.
3) ...last resort would be a Pet Store for...
lol u guys...
Once in a blue moon mine sleep in really awkward positions as well. When my Panther was younger - I caught him sleeping upside down as well. They do what they want...logical or not!
