LOL... I went through this a few years back. I had a pretty big cham "grow op" going and had heat seeking helicopters buzzing my house & cops @ the door. Once they figured it out they were pretty nice about it. I still wonder what people driving by must think about all the lights & plants in the...
In my experience with WC chams hydration is the first priority. Hours of misting and a continuous drip. It also seems that acquiring recently imported specimens is the way to go. Generally, the longer they have been under an importer/dealer/stores care the worse off they are. It is also...
I have used mercury vapour lamps for years. However, I have found the Zoo-Med bulbs to be EXTREMELY fragile when hot, the slightest bump will blow the filament. Another consideration would be the placement of your fixture... these bulbs output a lot of heat, although the chance of burns is...
I'm with the others... If you enjoy Arley as a pet, keep it! I see no problems keeping melleri singly. While others have had success keeping them in groups, I find keeping mine individually works best for me. Cheers!
The very tip of the nozzle will screw off.... It has flat sides to accommodate wrenches. You may need tools to do this. Inside is a very fine screen filter which does its job and plugs up easily. Remove the filter, clean it out and reassemble the nozzle... it should work like new till it plugs...
Yea... I would agree, if you can, wait for CB. Wild caught can be pretty tricky to acclimate. Although if you find a FRESH import that hasn't been put through the ringer with poor husbandry at a dealers or pet shop for too long, that may not be such a bad choice either. Cheers!
The hose will shake when pressured up. If you find it to be a problem, you can secure it with cable ties or tape. Is it the pump that is noisy or the hose rattling against something? My pumps are very quiet. Cheers!
I foster homed an umbrella cockatoo named Edgar for a few years. Very entertaining creatures. Eddy had a harness he would bring to me when he wanted to go outside. He was a bit crazy, but overall a very nice pet. Cheers!
Very difficult to sex is an understatement! LOL. I have several mellers... I'm not 100% on their sexes. Sadly, earlier this year I had a one suddenly surprise me with eggs! I interact with my chams daily but didn't even see it coming. I saw no clues, no change in attitude, behaviour or colour...
I'm always posting pics of my mellers while neglecting to show off Icky... here are a few photos. Not the best quality, took them with my phone... Cheers!
Mercury vapour bulbs are what I've used for years... They require a different approach than the traditional UV tube & basking bulb rig, but have worked well in my set-ups for years. In my experience they don't put out as much heat as you would think... but you still need you to be aware... If...
