I know, at the vet, they look into his mouth, squish around the lump, that sort of thing as a means of identifying infection. I do wonder if they'd give a test run of an oral antibiotic despite not finding anything immediately concerning in those checkups. Like, if they'll only prescribe...
Yeah, that's the feeling I got from the repti turtle drops. My usual vet wasn't in yesterday who seems like they have more experience with chameleons. I also felt that it would be odd for him to still struggle with a vitamin A issue after I've been supplementing him for the months I've had him...
I'm also going to update my husbandry review to see if there's anything incorrect there:
Your Chameleon
My guess is he is around 5-6 months old, and he's been in my care since the 16th of this April.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
I interact with him every day lately...
Back from another vet visit regarding the oddity of Spooble's left eye. For a bit, after the initial second flush which released the keratin plug, his eye looked normal. Eventually, he started keeping his left eye open during the night, and it was crusting over, too. He stopped doing this...
It's pretty normal that they're shy about eating when you first bring them home. It could take a couple weeks before he starts eating comfortably. On top of that, maybe this video will help you out. It can take them a while to come around to dubia roaches just because of their habit to move to a...
You can get waxworms as a treat bug, and they'll turn into moths which you can also feed to him. If he can find them, I'm sure it'll make him feel like a hunter. wax moths are pretty still once they find a hiding spot though (usually under a branch immediately after you put them in)
I have a pair of these
They're thinner, so a bit easier to strap onto a branch with a zip tie. They're waterproof, but the screen can get buggy if they get too wet, so be mindful they're not placed right where water sprays. I have one at the top and another at the bottom.
On that note, I've...
I see! That sounds great then! Gutload icecubes are a gamechanger.
He's so beautiful! He's built like a football 😊 Your sister is just jealous she can't live in a dragon strand enclosure with an automister.
Incredible journey for him, and you're really putting in the work too. He's gone from 0 to living quite lavishly.
I can see his back in pic 4. I bet he's a pretty guy!
My only suggestion is to up the variety of feeders, and make sure they're gutloaded. Here's a fun idea, too. Gutload icecubes...
Omg @jeevisieb what's your definition of lucky!!! That does make clean up easy, but it's so funny he demands bathroom time of you.
I have my feeders in a cup. I'd be hesitant to let my chameleon eat anything that just ate his waste but xD I guess that's nature?
My guy just goes...Wherever! Sometimes he'll do it in the same general place for a few days, but discover a new place the next day.
You're lucky they have designated toilets, so to speak 😅
Congrats, Gingero! I've been watching every short, enthralled by how cute and puny they are.
I look forward to seeing which babies you end up keeping too. It's gonna be a difficult decision I imagine!
Some days, I feel the skill ceiling that is being able to best Spooble at his game of poop hide-and-go-seek. I'll look all around, following the urate trails, but then never find the rest. Well...Not for some days. So what is your trick? Assuming you're not doing bioactive with a clean up crew...
I'd like to learn myself. I have mosquito bits on the way.
Like obviously I can't just not water my plants for a long time to try to cull them, and I can't not mist for the sake of the chameleon.
