It seems like this will pass, the shed must of given his eye a hard time! I would give it a few days before fretting to much. If the eye starts to stay consistently closed and starts forming mucus around it I would take him to the vet. Increase misting and humidity.
Loosing apatite and digging more then one hole is very common for chameleons when laying. Mealworms to many carrots and mites? What does this have to do with her laying? I dont believe you can over feed mealworms. How many days has she been digging for?

Have heard this somewhere before to. Flagyl is quite strong and will impact a chameleons immune system. This is a very interesting concept, does anyone have any experience with this?

That would be to acidic making it toxic! Id stick with a fake on and an umbrella plant o a ficus, but a plant that has never had pesticides on it anytime in its existence! and this is all especially important given veileds tend to eat the plants more then other chameleon species
