Indian Walking Stick Keeping
To provide as much variety as possible, I have "ordered" a male and female walking stick pair. I will pick them up when I get Marimo's new and improved terrarium set up sometime in late spring.
I have a bunch of questions in regards to the keeping on various...
Yuki (female veiled) hisses at me about 40% of the time I put my hand in there. The other 60% of the time she assumes I have food and looks at my fingers crosseyed before selecting the most delicious looking one and shoots her tongue at it. Because of this, and not wanting to injure her, she has...
Thank you :)
We are blessed with understanding petstores around here it seems! The other one we regularly go will put tortoises back on their feet, rescue trapped scorpions and the like when we notice them. One of their chams also looked like it was developing MBD (They hadn't had it for...
Thank you! :D She's improved so much and eats a load too. Today I caught her, sitting there with her mouth open. I thought it was because she was too warm or something... but she knows I check the temp when she's opening her mouth... and I sometimes give her a mealworm treat if she didn't hiss...
For those of you who don't know, I rescued Yuki from a petstore nearby at the beginning of the year. The petstore has since listened to my words, and their chameleons are a LOT better cared for now! No more bugs the size of the chameleon itself... they also only sell the older ones, not babies...
The first time I tried feeding Yuki a bit of apple, she was much the same... I usually hand feed her, and this was no mealworm, phoenix worm, cricket, fly or anything that moves. She looked curiously at it and then almost immediately puffed up, swayed back and forth, opened her mouth and started...
Having read this, I'm starting to rethink the "open container for the mealworms" idea... I find they are less of a smack in the face smell-wise when the lid is open as opposed to closed...
I do admit it was funny to read though! Did they all escape, or just a couple? I'm lucky I have 3 cats...
I have substrate in Marimo's cage without any problems. (Of course, I do have drainage with extra precautionary screen covering the holes so bugs don#t escape....)
I use the following:
Earthworms to "renew" the dirt and eat some of the poop and dead leaves.
Springtails to eat the dead...
Since you can't get much, definitely get some phoenix worms! :D Even if you had a lot of variety, phoenix worms are a great source of calcium. If they turn into flies, your cham will love chasing them down too. (Don't let their looks creep you out, I thought they would bite/sting at first, but...
It's been a while since I made a post. I've been really busy and didn't have much time to lurk about on here. But I do have a question for you all, more opinions really (and I suppose a bit of a story).
When I got Marimo on my birthday (Beginning of December) I had 13 little babies to choose...
I don't have an exo terra, but I do have something similar, glass, and with substrate. The substrate will eventually be gone (Marimo will be moved to a bigger terrarium eventually) but I do do the following:
I hardly clean the poop, leaves and whatnot, but the reason being is that I actually...
It's especially great considering she was on the verge of starvation and dehydration when we got her! :D
That picture was taken moments before she vanished from the camera completely! After that picture was taken, the only thing I could see was an eye every now and then, looking over the...
I'm really happy that Yuki shed yesterday (I didn't get any pics yesterday as she was already pretty stressed out with all the shedding and more frequent misting she got.) I did get some pictures today of her after her shed! I always hear about chameleons having no appetite when they shed.. but...
I'm not sure if you can or can not feed them.. but I personally wouldn't want to risk it. If there's potentially anything in that snail that could transmit to your cham, it's just not worth the risk really! If the snails have even one parasite, then it could spell vet visits for your cham.. and...
My plants are thriving on the bulbs I have in there now (basking and UVB) so I don't think you'll NEED a plant bulb, although it might be a good idea.
If you are indeed getting hibiscus, I would recommend you get more than one (likely 2 or 3) so that you can rotate them. This makes it even...
Adorable little guy :D Holding my fingers crossed for some really nice colouring when he's older! I love young chameleons, so cute!
This is a piece of information I will remember. I had no idea that's the colour of a stressed veiled. Yuki has only shown those colours twice: Once when she got...
It's possible they come from another country where °C is used. In which case, 26°C = 78.8°C
I am no professional on chameleon eggs (Although I am soaking as much information as I can when I can) so I cannot provide any advice/opinion. My guess would be that they were too dry/too warm. Again...
That's great to know! I'm going to try a spirulina cricket on Yuki.. she's on a strike and only wants flies right now... I'm getting some new crickets in, as the ones I have might be too big, so I thought! I'll try one with some spirulina later, see how that goes :D
Turning off the night bulb is good. Like I said before, chameleons have no need for a light at night! They actually require temperature drops at night, and as stated before, they need pure darkness. I'm hoping everything goes away in due time, but I'm sure someone will pipe up should they think...
