    This a UVB burn?

Guys, is this a uvb burn? My 4 mo veiled chameleon has been using a T5HO 10.0UVB 15W light after the vet told me to change it from my old 5.0UVB 2 weeks ago. Don’t think it was caused by basking light since he rarely hangs out under it. Went to the vet earlier this week (we got parasite meds)...

    Cham is grey?

Hi and welcome! I think a spot on his knee also has a burn. :( He most definitely will need to be seen and treated for those burns by a vet. He will need silver sulfadiazine cream and possibly even an antibiotic since the burns are so widespread. I’d like if you could post some pics of his...

    Basking Light bulbs

Hi, I wanted to know if these light bulbs would work as the basking light. I know the suggested lights are supposed to be BR30 but I can’t find any non LED ones. I originally got the ZooMed 60w but it was on for a lil over a week (12hrs each day) before it burned out. Tried looking online for...

Although not ideal. Grow lights can be used as a heat source or basking light. You have got to treat them as a normal basking light and give space from between the basking light and branch to prevent burns, as stated earlier. I have used grow lights as a basking light a couple of times...

    This a UVB burn?

Some vets do advise 10.0 (Arcadia 12%) uvb, but we want to stay with the 5.0 or 6%. Make sure there is a distance of 8-9” between basking lights and basking branch. That does look like a burn, but I can’t be 100% certain.

Also Marge is now basking right under her grow lamp. Is this normal? I’m concerned she could get heat burns on her back. Like her head is touching the screen. I don’t k no w what to do.

    Cham is grey?

Hi here is his enclosure, his light is only about a month old arcadia T5 12% light, heat bulb blew so he temporarily has a chicken lamp (with a thermostat)

    This a UVB burn?

Can't be certain either, but IME with thermal burns, the part of the cham that's closest to the radiation source tends to be the first to show damage. That would be the crest of his casque and their dorsal spines. They look fine. I agree something seems to be going on with that discolored skin...

Move the branch so that she can’t get so close.

    New Chameleon Parent

Oh, just noticed, I would drop max basking temps to about 85-87, they can burn easily. It happened to me at the beginning. But my guy is good and healthy still. I just feel terrible to this day.

    burn?

wondering what this mark is. It appears like skin but I dont believe its shedding as he literally just did that last week. He has been close to uvb bulb as a plant grew up to top of enclosure where i noticed him hanging out. I have cut the plant back so he cant bask there no more

Roughly how tall are adult, fully grown male panthers?

The basking branch distance is dictated by your UVB. If you are using the recommended standard T5 with either Arcadia 6% or ReptiSun 5.0, then the distance for the ideal UVB level is 8-9”. If you are afraid that your basking bulb will cause a burn, place your hand at the level your chameleon...

    Panther chameleon

Ok. Is he walking upside down on the screen? If so, you’ll need to rise your basking light a few inches give it so he doesn’t get burned. I just get small wire baskets from the dollar store to lift my lights, since it’s only until he gets too big to wok upside down like that. You may also need...

    Cage hanging

I think mine only stopped when they became too heavy to walk upside down. Heck, if I could do it too, I would! 😂 Until he outgrows this, for burn prevention you want to elevate your basking light a couple of inches above the screen. Since it’s just temporary, I’ve always used little wire...

    Panther chameleon

I’m running a 75w. He sits on the leaf about 3-4 “ from the top to bask. Thank you!

Roughly how tall are adult, fully grown male panthers?

Well you have to take into account the male has a large casque. I would keep the permanent temp gauge right where his head would sit. I always keep his bask at 84-85 with a dimmer switch if it got too hot in the summer. My vet and I had a go around about it as he thought 90-95 degrees was better...

    Shed in back spikes/dorsal spikes

The spikes do shed. I am not seeing any sign of a thermal burn. I would double check your temps and humidity levels though. Smaller spikes like this on a female generally will shed easier than those of a male as theirs are larger and can cross one another causing the shed to get stuck. Hers are...

    Baby Veiled Chameleon basking/lighting help

Hello, brand new chameleon owner here. I have a question regarding lighting & basking. I currently am using the Reptisun 5.0HO combo lamp and a 100W basking bulb for my 1 month (I think?) old chameleon. I am struggling to understand the requirements of these and how it all works together for...

Puzzled Vet Student - Tongue Issues?

It will still be within range with a brand new bulb. Once a bulb has burned in its output will reduce slightly. I would make sure it is absolutely no farther than that though and that it is directly below where the fixture is. Uvb disbursement really is focused directly below the fixture and...
