Bio active on Zoo Med XL?

...a chameleon kit at first and having to rebuy absolutely everything. I then had the right setup and just recently made a new one that’s bioactive. Everything on timers that work great is just a feeling of relief knowing your chams in a good enclosure with everything dialed in correctly. And...

    Hydration question

Hi. Poop looks ok. Is your set up bioactive? If so, that should be helping immensely with humidity. How long do you mist for? The ideal is to mist for at least two minutes, twice a day - right before lights go on and off. If needed, you could add a 1 minute misting in the afternoon or use a...

SWFL Cricket Keepers- Show me your containers!

I had tried keeping my crickets bioactive with dwarf white isopods and springtails. Stupid crickets ate every last isopod. Where are you that it’s a challenging climate? I’m in central Florida. The bugs I want to breed I keep in the garage for the warmth.

Crooked cascue? Wild Veiled Cham questions

...a difficult transition to being caged and while he accepts his fate finally, he seems depressed. So, even though they are invasive, I’m all for leaving them as is in the wild. If you do choose to keep one though, I’ll help you as I can to meet his/her needs. I keep bioactively, but not outdoors.

    Getting rid of gnats/fruit flies

So idk if it’s gnats, fruit flies or what but since I went bioactive it’s gone down but still see them Inside the enclosure. I guess it’s inevitable with moist dirt and heat lights etc. anything you guys do to limit these? I know the potted plants that get super soaked attract them and I found a...

New enclosure layout/Deep Clean? Best way to do so?

...us living in houses, at least that’s how I imagine it heh. Also, having potted live plants, branches, etc still does amount to a level of *bioactiveness*. Harmless/beneficial bacteria will cover surfaces, just not as much as in soil. This is where it’d be ideal to remove the poop and spot...

    Grasshopper Haven

So by days end I have 4 egg sacks. Maybe more since the sand was a little dry after this one pictured laid them you can’t see the hole anymore. I sprayed them down a bit more. It’s a mix of sand and an organic substrate for a bioactive enclosure I got at a local reptile shop.

    Rango’s Casque

...is some terrarium wood chips I picked up at the pet store when I first got him. If I’m being completely honest, I have no idea if it’s bioactive 😅 Anyway, thank you for the advice! I’ll alter his meal times and work on getting a probe. Also, yes— his crickets are also dusted. It’s calcium...

    MUSHROOMS GROWING IN BIOACTIVE

Hi all, I hope everyone is well! I have not been on here for a while but I am back and in dire need of help! I’ve had a bioactive enclosure for a fair few months now and saw a while ago mushrooms is a sign of a healthy substrate. Well today I came home to find these two mushrooms sprouting...

    Jalapeno stressing me out.

...it some time in hopes he will resume normal activity and normal appearance. Getting a stool sample isn’t too difficult even if you have a bioactive setup. Cover the area where he usually goes with Saran Wrap or wax paper and wait. Mine usually goes early afternoon. But all routines are...

    Chameleon Slow to Rise

...me know if I leave anything out and I will comment! We have a baby ambilobe panther chameleon right at 2.5 months old. He is in a 24x24x48 bioactive enclosure. We have been feeding gutloaded crickets (repashys bug burger dusted with calcium plus) and giving right around 13 hours of daylight...

Thinking of getting back into it

Yeah, my setup is bioactive with springtails and isopods. Some of my isopods running around are huge. If I don’t find one soon, I think I might switch over to poison frogs. I think they are pretty cool looking with all the different color combos out there.

    Fungus gnat problem

Mosquito bits are safe to use and effective, but if you have bioactive enclosures, it may risk killing your cleanup crew. There are also Katchy and other electronic sticky traps, vinegar traps, paper sticky traps and drosera capensis (aka sundew) plants. I’m currently battling a bad case of them...

    Progress of my bioactive build

Started this awhile ago but never have much time so do like 2 hours at a time when I get the chance to work on it. Built the base out of 2x3s and made cabinet doors all out of pvc board and trim. The bottom was just 1/2” pvc board screwed together with silicone on the joints then spray painted...

Is something wrong with this chameleon? (found at petstore)

...vet, and my wife is actually a zoo biologist with reptile experience, so we're very carefully following Chameleon Academy's guides on bioactive enclosures! We've spent quite a lot of money on this project because we're very serious about providing the finest care possible. We're also reading...

Baby new cage but his digging

Yup! He is certainly a he. Thanks for humoring me. 😊 His enclosure is bioactive? Do you have a good leaf litter to cover the soil and isopods? I like to give my isopods a decent sized chunk of cork bark to hide beneath too. Once my chams learn they are living with bugs, they think it’s an all...
