Please let me know what you think of this and what I should do.

That looks nasty, I wish I knew more so I could help.
A vet visit would definately bring some answers and treatment.

i def agree it looks like a burn to me and not really a sore....if you have your basking light to close to the cage and only one spot that your cham can get to it that would explain it. give your cham multiple branches and vines to use for basking..maybe lower the wattage on your basking bulb and get it farther away from the cage...

ok i retract my previous statement about your light being to close to the cage. that distance seems to be ok. if its not a burn from the light and it seems way to large to be from a cricket bite then a fungus kinda pops to mind...what is the ventilation like in your cage?? if things are getting to wet and staying to wet then that can become a breeding ground for fungus. think of it as kinda like athletes foot. maybe try some anti-fungal cream and try using a fan to help move the air

An anti-fungal spray can work also, as they come in little pump-sprayers as well. If fungal, it means too much moisture, and you will have to address that. As mentioned, increased air-flow can help. If you use a water sprayer, and/or are in the habit of misting him directly, I would stop immediately, and go to a drip. Good luck.

the temp is 80 to 83 and the lamp is hanging about 5 inches from the top of the cage.

Is your light inside the cage? That looks like a bad burn but I'm no vet. Do you have a vet? I would get and appt ASAP and find out exactly what it is and the proper treatment for it.

My question would be WHAT are you measuring your temps with. If it is an analog thermometer you may be way off in what you think the basking spot is. I always calibrate with 2 different Digital thermometers. Better safe than sorry.

The light is outside to cage and I have a screen cage. I mist 3-4 times a day for about 5 minutes eachtime. I messure my temp with a digital thermostat. I am trying to find a vet close. I found one about an hour away so I will be going on thursday.

Best stuff for burns (and it can help heal other injuries too) is Silvadene cream. Most vets get samples and maybe yours could just give you one. You could call around to pharmacies to see if they have it OTC, but a vet might have one for free.

Besides the possibilities of it being a burn or a fungal infection, I think it also looks like large rub marks, possibly from him dragging his side across the screen.

just from my personal observation I would guess thermal burn and or UV (sun burn).

5 inches is pretty close to a heat lamp and even at lower temps burns are possible if he spends too much time under it. Think about an oven on low settings. If you cook roast in the oven at 200 degrees, long enough it will burn.

One of my Melleri got a burn on her side in the same relative spot, but no where near as bad. This was from a 65 watt bulb over 6-7 inches from the basking spot.
