Hey guys. My dude is dropping poop that looks good to me, a blackish brown ball turd thing, with white liquid stuff, but then in the clear liquidy part of the doody, it looks like there is tiny little orange balls everywhere. i dont have a microscope, im going to bring some dung to school on tuesday and check it out, does anyone know what this is? he drinks a ton of water. im gonna upload a pic right now.

dont mind the dirty looking white poo and the missing brown poo, this is a fresh turd that i wiped up with a paper towel and theres some dirt with it. Check out these little orange balls!! what are they!?!

So do I, but I have noticed where the crix are it leaves orange balls, so didn't know if he was just over doing it with one of them, can remember which it is that has them

Looks like urate crystals to me. How long was it since he last pooped before today? The longer the urate is in their bodies, the more water is absorbed, thus leading to a more yellow/orange urate the longer it's been inside the cham.

he poops just about everyday. I clean it up when he does. Its not consistent. yesterday he dropped just a brown ball. No white stuff or goo. And no he is on Zoo Med "Repti Calcium w/D3", but only one lightly dusted cricket or meal worm every two weeks, and I lightly dust his morning meal with Rep-Cal brand Calcium with 0% D3 and Phosphorus. Ive only had him for about 2 weeks. He is in a new enclosure with new everything, but i can see some remains from old poops that are still in his old cage that i havent thrown out yet. the old poops appear to be all orange stuff. So it looks like the issue is getting better. I didnt have the money to take him to the vet this week for his initial check up like i said i was going too. But i will next week. and im going to check this stuff out under a microscope FOR SURE.

hes a Xanth. 1+ year old. His humidity cant get any better. he would be submerged. He has a humidifier blowing constant clouds into his cage with a dripper dripping all day long at the spot he likes to drink. But i water him every morning. he likes it when i poke him in the mouth with the dropper tube, he opens up his mouth and i count out 10-15 water drops. sometimes i do it to him before bed too, but he drinks on his own. i catch him sicking water off the ficus sometimes

i figured someone would make me fill one of these out so here it goes

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Jackson (xanth) 1 year old, adopted him a week and a half ago

Handling - everyday i let him out of his cage. usually just open it and wait for him to come out. he reaches for my hand and loves sitting on my head. but its weird, he hates me wife. maybe lotion or something? i dono...

Feeding - gut loaded crickets (veggies of all sorts) i gut load them until i see what i am feeding them coming out in their poop. usually 2-3 days. I give him a small mealworm about once every two days. he really likes them. In the morning i give him a large cricket with his vitamins. then in the afternoon ill give him some smaller crickets or maybe a mealworm. he doesnt over eat. when hes full he looks me in the eyes, and then cruises back over to his basking spot. oh, and the crickets i buy from the pet store are gut loaded already, but they use some kind of dry herb looking stuff. the crickets are fatasses right from the store. but i still use veggies to help with hydration and other things obviously.

Supplements - ZooMed Repti Calcium w/d3 once every 2 weeks dusted lightly on one cricket. Rep-Cal Calcium w/out D3 every day, lightly on his breakfast.

Watering - He has a fogger and a dripper. The fogger is on all day until about 5:30, thats when i turn the over head fan on, and all the water supplys off, to dry out the cage over night. He drinks. He likes it when i put the tube near his face so he can do a keg stand, but i also see him holding his face infront of the fogger and sometimes drinking from the leaf. i count out 10-15 drops of water into his mouth when i water him.

Fecal Description - you already know the story on the turds. and no he hasnt been tested for parasites yet.

History - owned by a young kid, he had him for about 4 months before i bought the lizard off him. Was healthy looking when i got him. Not a bad setup. Kid knew what he was doing.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - cage is a screen, i think its 24x24x36? theres a ficus in there with some of those bendy branches going all over and a hightend dry area where the heat lamp points to the tip top corner of the cage, where a thermometer and humidometer (lol) are. i got it right at 80 degrees.

Lighting - lighting is a hood, Repti Sun 5.0 and a regular cone thing with a 75watt soft white for heat.

Temperature - Temp range is from 70-80. from the bottom of the cage where the moist dirt from the plant is, it is 70. his basking spot is 80-82 depending on if my fan is on, his rainforest spot opposite to the basking spot is about 70-72 depending on how moist the leaf is that i zap. lowest overnight time is gonna be around 65. i like the house cold, but my wife and lizards dont. I use an infrared heat gun to check all over and his skin temp 3-4 times a dayand zoo med analog guages around the basking spot.

Humidity - If it was any more humid in his moist side, he would be swimming. Over on that side, i dont have a guage. cuz i dont need it. Its a rainforest, dripping all the time. he loves it over there. The basking spot under the heat lamp stays right around 65% humidty. i use the zoo med analog guage for humidity.

Plants - yes the plant lives. It is a Ficus benjamina

Placement - Cage is located in my family room, where I hang out all day and study and create ideas on how to rid the world of evil by means of polymer based explosives. There is a fan right above him that i turn on periodically throughout the day to simulate some wind. it doesnt seem to phase him the slightest, but i do it anyways for the realism. his cage sits ontop of a table, and his highest point is about 5 feet off the ground.

Location - i am geographically located in the same sex relationship accepted, marijuana capitol, anti gun, liberal community of Southern California. (but i wish i was back home in AZ)

Current Problem - Salmon Egg looking orange balls around the dookie. not inside, or attached too, but around the dookie. Within the clear slimyness that comes along with the black turd and the white goo.

One of two things is going on.

1. Not enough hydration.
Solution: Spray the cage 3-5 minutes, 3 times a day. A ultrasonice humidifier would be beneficial to your jacksons.
2. Smoking home.
Solution: Place cage in a area that doesnt get smoked in.

well thanks, but he has a ultra sonic humidifier "repti fogger" ? i think is the brand. And we dont smoke. I dont think the kid i got him off smoked either. He was 15. Like I said in my thingy I filled out, his cage is dripping basically for 10 hours a day. its weird, the urate (white stuff?) is pure white. When they are dehydrated doesnt it turn the white stuff colors? these little balls are floating around in him they do not appear to be inside the urate at all. im hoping its not some kind of parasite egg, but hes healthy and fat and loves to eat. this is driving me nuts. i guess we wont know till i look under a scope.

I know exactly what your looking at. ;)

From my own observation. What you are witnessing is caused from one of the two things i have listed above. 10 days in your care isnt enough time to get him tip top from being subjected to either problems. I recieved four chameleons from a house fire. The urates had those exact orange substance that you are describing. The urates where even off white for i would have to say atleast 4-6 weeks. It took many hours of extra mistings to clean them up.

Your cage dripping 10 hours a day is not good. it needs to dry out between mistings. If you dont have a drainage set up going you might want to look into implementing something soon before you cause another problem.

yea i got it set up so that the water drips right out. The moisture builds up on the leaves from the fogger and drips, I made that sound kinda extreme originally. and I only fill the dripper up 1/4 of the way and put it infront of him so that he starts to drink. when hes done i turn it off and let him get moisture from the fogger. Ive actually seen him stand infront of it and open his mouth. i posted a picture of it on here last week. This is interesting. Why would smoke make his poop have orange balls in it? and your right about the 10 days not being enough time. I thought about a little while ago, and thought to myself that it appears to be improving. Also, I forgot to mention, in the hood that I got from the kid i bought this lizard off, it had a Repti Sun 10.0! i swapped that out asap with a 5.0

This is just from my personal experience and nothing else. :) ill leave it to you to be the judge.

Smoke subjects the animal to contaminates. Contaminates that the body has to get rid of. Chameleons like most other lizards only have only a few ways to rid of waste. Poo and pee ;) They cant sweat it out, form eye boogers (for the lack of the exact term for this), cough it up, spit it up, etc. The contaminates are absorbed into many of the organs of a lizard including the kidneys.

Smoke dehydrates you.

In my personal opinion. Your animals just needs to be in your care for a little longer. Gauging from the pics. He just needs water and lots of it :)
