So sorry for your loss. Seems like there may have been more going on than that to me. You did the right thing by taking him to the veterinarian. It's always saddening to lose a pet.
I would like to recommend that you actually listen to those that are giving you valuable advice for free. There have been multiple very well educated replies to your problem. If you continue to wait you are likely allowing the chameleon to further deteriorate. I don't think I have to tell you...
So I was thinking the other day that I know how to tell more or less if my little man is looking good but I didn't really know how to evaluate his primary food source. (don't worry he's getting some variety it's just crickets are his fave) What do you look for in healthy crickets?
Here is a website that appears to have a large amount of information about lighting that I'm not sure has been posted before. I haven't read through everything but it seems pretty solid. http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor.htm
I know this thread is old but what gecko forum is being referenced? I'll need a larger exoterra for my veiled soon and the old one can't sit empty ya know. :P These guys are soooo cute or maybe I should go for a Jacksons.
Ugh just found some of these little creepers in my cricket keeper. They are gross is it ok to feed them or what? Thought I had a good source for the crickets but now I'm doubting it. Mass genocide for all to protect my veiled or are they ok to feed? I might kill them anyway cause they're gross.
Huh the ones from the local reptile store for me are much darker than those from big box pet stores. But I am able to keep them for a week or two just fine with some food at home. If they are dying it is like everyone else said too crowded and not enough ventilation.
Vet visit time for sure. Remember that they will hide illness until they are really sick so please go as soon as possible. Look for a reptile vet if there is one in your region.
Usually you can call and find out from the receptionist. They can ask the veterinarian and are used to answering the questions again. :) Usually I script things out and re-check in 3-4 days or longer depending on the underlying issue. If they said conjunctivitis then prolly a week or so will...
Glad to hear she is doing so much better. A hissing chameleon is a healthy chameleon so it seems. :) You could potentially put a plastic cup of some sort in there maybe like a cottage cheese container with the dusted insects. If it needs to be shallow you could try cutting it down or perhaps...
