Yeah I've never seen shed look like that before. The picture makes it look that way but it is bright yellow. I hope it isn't a burn and is just the way he is. It doesn't seem to bother him when I touch it.
It is a higher wattage bulb though. 125W. Couldn't seem to get the basking temp high enough with lower wattage bulbs.
I just touched the screen just below the bulb and its warm, but not nearly hot enough to give a burn by contact.
Used an infrared thermometer on his basking stick and it varies from 86-92. I have the bulb a good 4-5 inches above the roof of the cage in thoughts to avoid burns.
A few months ago I noticed a spot on my veiled chameleon's side that doesn't change color. It's bright green, the same color he would exhibit if he were sleeping. He will go through is day changing colors like normal but that spot stays the same. I thought nothing of it at first until this...
My veiled will yawn like this. He puffs out his chin before he lets out a big yawn or two. Sometimes he will wiggle or stretch a bit when he does this.
I've got the same thing going on with my 6mo veiled boy. Whenever I walk into the room he starts moving toward the door and begs to be let out. At first he would not stop moving. He was constantly exploring, walking from room to room checking everything out. Now he comes out, climbs up on my...
I think crickets eating the skin of your cham is largely a myth but I would take the crickets out at night as well. I could maybe see the crickets getting at their eyes but from what I've heard, everyone has heard the rumor from someone else. That being said, for safety's sake, there's no...
Your little veiled looks healthy to me! A little yellow in the urates is perfectly normal. Just so long as they aren't dark yellow or orangish color. It took a while before I first saw my cham drink so as long as you mist regularly you should be ok. A dripper is a good idea though. I have...
I'm thinking about starting a colony of Dubia roaches but am a little skeptical on keeping roaches in general. They seem better than crickets in every way except for one... roaches are notorious for infecting houses. None of the other threads that I've found seem to comment on this so I would...
thanks everyone.
To Loosepin15. Do you order your crickets online? If so where? I keep mine in a glass aquarium that has a mesh top, so a pretty good amount of ventilation.
To Socialnumb. I thought I had enough for them to hide in but ill try adding more to see what happens.
To Blink. I...
I just bought 1000 crickets from Bassett's and much to my surprise they all arrived alive and bouncy. However, its been a couple days and a bunch of them are going belly up. I mean literally, they will be alive but just laying on their backs and hardly move.
I have two ideas why. First, I...
I should add that dusting with a multivitamin/D3 isn't a bad method, it's just not how I do it. I think that if 5-10% of your feeders have vit/d3 you should be fine. Bottom line, it's whatever works for YOUR cham
Ashimarie,
You need three things: plain calcium without D3, some source of D3, and a multivitamin. You say you have the ZooMed Reptivite which is good. I use it and in my opinion, its the best option for a couple reasons. It's a multivitamin AND has D3 so boom, two birds with one stone. Also...
