centipedes are generally larger and from what I know are poisonous. i would guess that is is a millipede from the description .

alot of people use cat food. This is an easy way to build your colony. How ever it is suggested that you remove the ones you are going to feed off and gutload them with vegetables.

one more vote for dont do it. it is good that your brother has had one before so he has some understanding. however i would recommend a bearded dragon way before a iguana.
