Chameleontips - plagiarism and copyright piracy

Chris Anderson

Dr. House of Chameleons
Recently I became aware of a chameleon website offering to sell a "Chameleon Secrets Ebook" and the owner of this site has recently started posting here with little more in her responses then telling people to check out her site for more information. When I looked at her site, I noticed some very familiar content. Here are a few things I noticed:

- Chameleons As Pets (http://www.chameleontips.com/pet-chameleons.html) - Actually stolen from: http://www.chameleonsonline.com/

- Panther Chameleon (http://www.chameleontips.com/chameleon-breeds/panther-chameleon.html) - Actually stolen from: http://www.the-lizard-lounge.com/content/library/wild-lizards/panther-chameleon.asp and http://exoticpets.about.com/od/chameleons/p/panthercham.htm

- Caring For Chameleons (http://www.chameleontips.com/caring-for-chameleons.html) - Actually stolen from: http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/chameleons/a/chameleonbasics_2.htm

- Feeding (http://www.chameleontips.com/caring-for-chameleons/feeding.html) - Actually stolen from: http://webhome.idirect.com/~chameleon/owners/chapter4-sub1.html

Chameleons Plants (http://www.chameleontips.com/caring-for-chameleons/plants-branches.html) - Actually stolen from: http://www.chameleonsdish.com/habitat/plants.htm

- Habitat/Caging (http://www.chameleontips.com/caring-for-chameleons/habitat-caging.html) - Actually Stolen from: http://www.ukchameleons.co.uk/housingintro.htm, http://www.ukchameleons.co.uk/housingplasticmesh.htm, http://www.ukchameleons.co.uk/housingplastic.htm, http://www.ukchameleons.co.uk/housingaluminiummesh.htm, http://www.ukchameleons.co.uk/housingglass.htm, and http://www.ukchameleons.co.uk/housingwood.htm)

Well, you get the idea, I'm a little tired of finding every source for everything on this person's website. As the owner of the site where some of this information was stolen from, I can verify that this information was not taken with permission. Please take time to look at the site and if you see any of your stuff, you should let them know what you think about their plagiarism and copyright piracy. This is illegal and every violation can carry a fine of up to $100,000, especially since they are trying to sell a product comprised of stolen information.

Chris

It is also worth noting that the "customer testimonial", a Dave Friant of NJ, is also selling/spamming for the same web site full o' stolen content elsewhere:

http://dowos.com/product.asp?PID=1124

edit: sorry that didn't make sense- google dave or david friants and you get back persons who do the same as that chameleoncare member (web building/linking).

McKay Robbins is the "author" of said stolen material on this link:
http://www.amazines.com/view_author.cfm?authorid=7603&Author=McKay &20Robbins

The cheekiness of content thieves never fails to surprise me.

Wow, thanks for posting that. After looking at that, I decided it needed to be more widely distributed. Its now been posted on the adcham list as well as the chamtown list. I'm getting ready to start posting it on other international chameleon forums as well.

Chris

This ebook is also on clickbank.com where people can put their digital products and anyone can affilate and sell them and the 'author' gets a cut of any book sold. So this will probally be poping up everywhere with different people selling it.

I did a whois on it and the owner of the site is below:

The poster here chameleoncare probally got it from there or if she is a linkbuilder she would be working for him building up traffic to his site :mad::mad:

Thanks, Chris.
I went to the site and I do feel that some of the writings are familiar.
Now I know why.

I am angered by this kind of things as well. My profession as an illustrator made me get real sensitive over plagiarism.
Under the new US copyright law "Orphan acts" that has passed quietly, it become increasingly difficult to protect your own copyright work.

The author of the article McKay Robbins this is probally not a real person. Most marketers never use their real name unless they are legit. What they do is they change the content just enough to be able to get away with it.

If you want to really stop it then email (and get everyone you know to as well) the owner of the site William Wright and put the heat on him. His email is [email protected] and he is the joker behind it all as its his website.

His website is not in compliance either as there is no privacy act or terms and conditions on it. I have contacted Clickbank and let them know
this and the copyright issue so hopefully they will pull it off their site.

I came across that site a while ago. She sends a zillion solicitation emails. I paid it no mind as there was nothing new about her information. Why pay for cham care info when it's readily available via most breeder websites?

Good work!

That email is no good. Perhaps this individual was anticipating a backlash...? I'd rather think earthlink shut him down due to complaints.

One of my Senegal pix is displayed on his blog without permission.

that sucks. you can file a complaint with godaddy. if they get a complaint from the owner of the copyrighted material they are pretty good about taking it down. good luck

I put in a complaint to GoDaddy and ICANN as well. If a domain/website owner doesn't keep his or her contact details current then they can cancel the domain.

Its a long shot but these type of people are peeving
