Weather Data - Taiz, Yemen

I was inspired by another Trace's 2/9/2013 post called "Random Musings on Seasonal Cycling" posted here. There was a lot of good data and information, and I felt it was very helpful. I thought it might be helpful for those of us keeping veileds to have some information about the climate in Yemen. So I went to some of the sources cited by Trace, and put together an Excel spreadsheet utilizing that data.

I decided to use Taiz, Yemen as my reference point for the data. I plan to incorporate more cities into the pool of data, and aggregate it for even better averages. However I have just finished Taiz, and wanted to get it posted. I utilized 2012 data, as 2013 is not complete (obviously :)). One of my other goals is to not only average other cities, but also across years to get a more representative sample. But it will be done in time!

For the Sunrise/Sunset times, I calculated the average monthly "daylight" time, and added that to 7am. In real life the sunrise time fluctuates, but I wanted to keep it fixed for my own routine. I plan to adjust the sunset time to accommodate for the changes in length of day. If you have a different start time to your day, you can change the start time and just add the daylight hours to come up with your sunset time.

Anyway, I have attached the chart I have come up with for now. I don't pretend to be an expert, and have not yet interpreted this data in to a "how to" for setting up the veiled's climate. But I thought it would be helpful for you all to have this information. I also plan to attach the Excel file for any of you who would like to play around with it.

I will most likely attempt to replicate the shifting of day length throughout the year, as well as possibly slightly increasing misting during the wetter seasons. But more than anything I think this chart helps provide some baseline ranges for basic variables. Hopefully it can reassure some folks that a) You don't need heat at night, b) Veileds (and most all chameleons) do not need crazy high basking temps, and c) Provide to humidity ranges that are somewhat based in factual data.

Let me know if anyone has input, questions, etc.! I always welcome comments.

Thanks,
Jason

Note: Precipitation is in inches. I forgot to add that to the Imperial version, and forgot to convert for the Metric version :D

very interesting! seeing these temps i'm wondering if they really hybernate in winter in the wild! I used to think so, but now I'm not sure anymore! maybe it depends on the different local area temps! 0.o
Anyway, next time put celsius degrees too! ;) make it easier for europeans! ;)

Thanks for the suggestion! I will be adding a column to the spreadsheet now to convert. I'll post an update. :)
