the lucky story.

earlier this year (2009) i was on craigslist and noticed that there was a chameleon, TANK and all for 50 bucks.... hmmm, i thought. thats a good deal. the petstores sell them for around 80. so i talke to the guy and was going to meet with him to see if i wanted the chameleon or not. well... when i finally saw him(lucky) i was shocked!! he was in a ten gallon tank with small rocks on bottom, had a small fake plant, just a regular fishtank light. and thats it. Lucky on the other hand, was extremely skinny. his little ribs were showing so bad. his arms were like toothpicks. and he was dehydrated. i felt bad for him and told they young guy off and geve him half of what he asked because of the animals condition and took him in as a rescue with the idea of selling him later when healthy.

i got him home and ditched the rocks, cheap plant, and put a regular blue zoomed daybulb on him. i knew nothing about chameleons at the time so i put cocofiber in the bottom of the tank. when i fed him, he was so dehydrated he could not use his tounge. he had to chase crickets and bite them like a bearded dragon would. then the research started and i got him a small screen cage. uv light, ditched the cocofiber on bottom, and put him on suppliments. he got bigger was eating more and was looking better, and after about two or three months, i was hooked. no way could i sell my chameleon. so i decided to name him then. amberly and i decided we would call him lucky, because he was lucky to be alive. now lucky is big, fat and territorial as all hell. we love him. we even got my mom hooked on chameleons and invited her to an expo where she bought her first female veiled, puppy. now she has two chams and loves them to death as well. and thats the story Lucky, our veiled chameleon.
