Poppi is gorgeous and growing like a weed. This week she even started cup-feeding! WooHoo! And, no, I didn't have to make her go hungry to get her to. Patience and perseverance finally paid off. Every day when I put food in her bowl, I hold it up to her, where she can see what goodies are in there. At first, she would shy away and I was thrilled just to have her stay where she was. Then, she started looking at the bowl instead of just watching me. About a week of that and she gave up watching me at all and would watch the bugs. It only took a few weeks of that and she finally started eating out of her bowl while I'm still holding it!
She is now letting me touch her occasionally without getting stressed out too. I don't try to pick her up or grab her, just a touch here and there. The only bummer of all of that progress is that I haven't heard her make her poppy noise that she is named for. But, I guess that is even good news because she is over feeling defensive toward me and Leonard (my guy). New people are a different story though. Courtney (Leonard's daughter and 'Crayola' here on the forum) was here for a visit and whenever she went to check the babies, Poppi would pop sometimes but she would puff up and get polka-dotted most of the time. LOL
Prometheus is another story. I am really confused about him. I haven't moved his cage yet but, I guess I need to. He still hates everyone! He is better with Leonard than with me but still runs or hides any time we walk into the room. And reach too close and he hisses and snaps. He is checking out what is in the feed bowl but only if it is at least 6 inches away. Any closer and he is off and running. Anti-social little twerp... But he is growing like a weed too.
Another issue that I am having with him is his hydration. If I only spray in the am OR pm and leave the dripper running all day and night, his urates look pretty good. If I mist him the 4 or 5 times that I mist her, even if the dripper is running, his urates start getting yellow. Now is that because of the stress or lack of hydration because of the stress? Should I just leave him alone and only mist him the once a day? Or just stress him out and mist him. Oh, the confusion! Any suggestions?
